We have an inbuilt propensity towards self-actualization and the job of the therapist is to help identify and remove obstacles, with the rest following from the innate tendency to grow. I use humanist and cognitive-behavioral frameworks to help individuals take action to reduce stress and pain in their lives. DBT and CBT approaches to treatment can help people develop mindfulness and interpersonal skills that support the ability to focus, manage stress, regulate emotions, and identify underlying beliefs that perpetuate problematic patterns of thinking and behaving.

It can be a gratifying experience examining different facets of your life and reflecting on how your role in the world evolves. Figuring out your place and considering your identities can be a challenging and curious endeavor. There might have been times when you were not allowed to express your true self either due to family or societal pressures. With that can come feelings of shame, guilt and fear over how you move through your day to day and how you interact with others. Creating a steady sense of who you are is an ongoing process and therapy is a great place to begin to figure this out and help you navigate your life with ease.

"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf" is a Jon Kabat-Zinn quote relevant to these challenging times. I help individuals become less stressed and more available to pursue their goals. Therapy should be a positive experience for you where you feel heard and supported and gain new insights into your feelings and experiences. Our sessions will focus on you becoming restored and replenished with more energy for the things you value. Whether you are experiencing a short term challenge or ongoing struggle, therapy will help you discover new approaches and perspectives in resolving obstacles in your path.

I firmly believe that you are the author in your story and want to honor and explore your values, needs and wants in the therapeutic environment.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists
How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.
What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.
How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.
How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
