I'm a Certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (TF- CBT) with additional trainings in trauma-informed approaches to therapy.
My name is Ayanna and I'm a licensed psychotherapist based in Brooklyn, New York. My clients often come to me with a history of trauma or adversity, and a strong desire to process and understand how their past has shaped them to be the person they are today. They’re motivated, insightful, eager to grow, and have a strong desire to learn the skills necessary to have healthier relationships, better communication, and improved confidence. Through our work together, we begin to understand and develop the tools necessary to manage anxiety and depressive symptoms that can at times be a barrier for further growth.

For therapy, I utilize a combination of trauma focused therapy, CBT, IFS, and attachment.
I work with children and adults who are looking for a space to explore and process current or past issues, free of shame or judgment. I have worked across a variety of treatment spaces and have worked with a wide range of ages, identities, and backgrounds. In working together, I look to cultivate a therapeutic space where we can bring awareness and curiosity to patterns or behaviors that may no longer be serving you or your child. We all deserve a space where we can be our most authentic selves, and where ourselves can be met with warmth and compassion. This is what I hope we can achieve in our time together.

I have completed certification in TF- CBT (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and CBC (Compassionate Bereavement Care).
Life is filled with series of moments, some simple and some a struggle. At times, it can be helpful to have a neutral space to feel supported, explore and process these moments. In my therapy practice, I do my best to offer that space. I have particular experience in working with women in young adulthood, navigating life transitions and relationships. I also have extensive experience in working with adults who have grown up in adverse childhood experiences.

I utilize art therapy techniques, DBT, CBT, and many other modalities to create sessions that are individualized and responsive to your specific needs.
In the first session, we’ll establish clear goals for what you’d like to focus on and begin creating the road map for doing so. The trajectory of the deeper work reflects the needs of each individual; I feel that my job is to listen to you and provide what you need in the moment, whether it’s a kind ear, more direct guidance, or both. I am always looking to stay current on contemporary perspectives and approaches in clinical practice, particularly in regard to changing views on trauma, women’s experiences, and the mental health of marginalized communities.

I use an eclectic mix of strategies ( CBT, MI, DBT, IFS and more) that I tailor to each individual.
No one should struggle on their own or without the right support. Everyone deserves to have someone on their team. If you are finding yourself wanting a thought partner, a supportive ear, or someone who can push you to go deeper in your healing, I am the right person for you. I am a warm, down-to-earth and caring therapist working relationally. I operate from an anti-oppressive lens and, as a White therapist, understand the necessity of practicing humility and self-awareness. I believe that my clients are the experts on their own lives; in fact, I see myself as a partner in my clients’ journeys of healing and self-exploration.

In addition to Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems, I draw from other evidence-based practices like CBT, DBT, the Gottman Method, and Motivational Interviewing in my work with individuals and relationships of all kinds.
In a world that rewards us for disconnecting from our bodies and settling for surface-level relationships, reconnection becomes a revolutionary act. I think this is why I find myself especially connected to the work of supporting people who feel disconnected from their bodies and relationships. Many people find themselves living primarily from the neck up—intellectualizing experiences rather than fully feeling them, sensing that something important is missing without quite being able to name it. Sometimes there's a history of trauma that made disconnection necessary, or cultural messages that prioritized achievement over embodiment.

My approach is predominantly strength based with cognitive behavioral therapy.
Life has a way of presenting challenges that we do not always expect. Such challenges can lead to feelings of anxiety, sadness, and other unpleasant emotions. My goal is to provide you with a warm, empathetic, collaborative, non-judgmental environment that will allow you to feel safe and heard as we navigate life’s challenges; explore practical coping skills; and discover hidden strengths you did not know you had!

My approach often involves a combination of psychodynamic work, to understand the way a person is impacted by their environment, and cognitive behavioral therapy as a method of exploring the connection between thoughts and feelings.
Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, challenges of ADHD, relationship difficulties, or other life issues, I am ready to work with you to identify your therapeutic goals and formulate a plan to reach them. With openness and compassion, I will listen to you and assist in exploring ways that your internal experience has been influenced by your environment. Together we will identify your strengths and put them to use in new ways to bring about positive change.

I utilize evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and others in the context of supportive, direct, and compassionate care.
Human beings are often walking the fine line between trying to do the best they can and recognizing they might need or want to do better - choosing to do the work to explore the latter path is an act of strength and bravery. In therapy, we will work together to develop a trusting and caring relationship to help you navigate this path. We will collaborate in identifying and applying your strengths and values to support you in working through your concerns and moving toward living as your most grounded and authentic self. I have experience working with both teens and adults and welcome both to my practice.
