When I started my career over 20 years ago, my focus was children and adolescents, and it has evolved to include couples, adults, and families.
Using Cognitive behavioral, Relational, Strength based, and systems theories as the cornerstones of my practice, we are able to establish a relationship that helps you feel at ease to delve into, discover, learn, illuminate, and understand aspects of your life you want to see more clearly. In so doing, learn strategies for an ego-syntonic life.

I’m here to make space for you or your adolescent child to mourn the life we knew before March of 2020.
Being a young person today is much harder than the world makes it out to be. Managing the transition from adolescence to young adulthood can be quite jarring, particularly during a time where social connection is limited, fear and anxiety are at an all-time high, and coping skills are limited to whatever we can pursue within the constraints of our homes.

Additionally, being a parent, raising two children, locally, in Brooklyn, having taught public high school and college for over 12 years, formerly, I understand the demands and issues related to adolescents and academic achievement.
Life is filled with obstacles that have to be negotiated on a daily basis in order for us to move forward. I've helped adolescents, adults and couples do this by working through- and in developing coping strategies to use in addressing- many issues, including low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, related mood disorders, addiction, loss, grief, severe mental illness, trauma, family conflict and uncertainty about a direction in life. Through 'straight'- honest- talk, deep reflection, exploration, identification and acknowledgement of the problem, I can help you develop effective ways to 'free up' the oftentimes fixed and toxic self-perceptions that may be holding you back.

For adults, we'll identify and process childhood themes and layered identities that manifest and complementing modalities to facilitate progress.
Do you feel connected and truly belonged? If you identify as a Korean American / Asian American / immigrant, a parent or someone going through the fertility journey, or student navigating social & academic environments, not limited to these populations, my clients navigate conflicting sub-cultures, painful upbringings that affect their adulthood, and/or complex relationships/identities while attempting to preserve self-love. I've worked with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, past/current trauma, and emotional turmoil that stem from relationships and the workplace. Bilingual in Korean.

I am a psychotherapist and New York Times best-selling author who works with adolescents, teens, and adults. My focus is on helping my patients, young people included, to discover and explore the patterns, beliefs, and default behaviors they bring to their most vital relationships: to their parents, their siblings, their friends, their intimate partners, and not least of all to themselves. When working with adolescents and teens, I consider it crucial to look at the whole family, to better understand how its members communicate, share space, and set boundaries with one another.

After my second child was born, I made the difficult decision to leave my job and focus on family.
As a clinician, I work with adults facing anxiety, depression, and trauma, and with children on the autism spectrum and other developmental disabilities. Drawing on personal and professional growth, I use a collaborative, client-centered approach—meeting clients where they are and tailoring therapy to their needs as a guide and partner in healing.

Child Therapists
What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
