I provide individualized treatment for clients with a variety of emotional and behavior problems - including depression, anxiety, anger, procrastination, school and work difficulties and trauma.
My orientation is largely psychodynamic, which means that I believe that psychological change comes from an enhanced awareness and understanding of how our past experiences influence our current expectations, perceptions and behavior. However, I am also trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and incorporate elements of this treatment approach when appropriate.

"Are you feeling overwhelmed with life, because of stressors at work, at home, or with your children, or your significant other, or even your past, then that is normal." I am here to listen and help you work through those stressors and those difficult times, especially when you can't turn to friends or your family. I have worked with children and families for many years, in multiple supportive capacities, and most recently in this therapeutic setting. Many times I have worked with individuals and couples working through Depression, through trauma and other personal challenges.

India R. Douglas, LCSW: I founded Pathway to Self to help others reach a deeper understanding of past traumas and provide tangible tools to move forward. Pathway to Self is a therapy platform that not only allows others to connect with themselves but through finding themselves they will be able to form stronger connections with others. Our understanding is that only when we find the “pathway to self” can we forge a pathway to “us” (or “we”). By helping people towards becoming the best versions of themselves, creating a safe space to express emotions of any kind. In a space where you are heard, validated, and affirmed.

These disrupting periods of pain, anger, emptiness, sadness, confusion, lack of motivation, or purpose is when it is important to seek help.
Over the past 10 years of being in the mental health field providing over 10,000 hours of therapy, what I enjoy most about my work is that it has helped those I serve to increase their awareness and ability to cope with both empowering education and tools to move confidently in all areas of their life. I often tell clients, friends, and family, "we all benefit from support and guidance."

I treat those who experience a wide variety of pain, which may include struggles with anxiety, depression, anger, life transitions, bereavement, relationship conflicts, trauma, and professional obstacles.
Therapy is a challenging process which requires strength and courage to seek out. For this reason, I look to tap into that strength to help individuals reach their professional and personal goals, better cope with pain, and maintain healthier relationships.

Our world has become increasingly interconnected, yet ironically loneliness can still permeate even the most crowded rooms, leaving us feeling unseen, unheard, even alienated. In my experience working with a diverse population of individuals of all ages and backgrounds, I have found that sharing our stories in a safe, non-judgmental space not only brings relief and healing from the traumas of our past, but also helps us re-engage with the present and envision a hopeful future.

If you're experiencing challenges like anxiety, mood swings, anger, or low mood, you're not alone.
We'll begin to getting to know your experiences on a deeper level using a psychodynamic approach to explore what might be going on beneath the surface. From there, I’ll often integrate tools from CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, and ACT to help tackle day-to-day challenges, shift unhelpful thought patterns, and build acceptance.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
