ADHD Therapists in Brooklyn, NY
Clinical psychologist and native NYer who finally has new evening openings! I thrive on working with overthinkers and overdoers, perfectionists, and entrepreneurial, busy AF power couples and individuals. People who just want one thing in life to feel easy and smooth—yet somehow nothing ever is. People who think therapy is too slow and soft, and crave a direct and no-bull approach. If you're looking for a direct, sharp therapist who works as hard as you do, then, in the words of Jack Donaghy: put your mental burden in my mind vice, and I'll crush it. Psychotherapeutically, of course!

While I have extensive experience treating adults and adolescents of all ages, many patients I see in my practice are in their 20’s-40's. Often they have experienced significant trauma in their lives that has resulted in intense feelings of depression and anxiety. There often is disruption and disappointment in relationships. This work can be challenging in ways we cannot always predict, so it is important that the therapist and patient together create a safe space that supports increasing awareness. I believe this can only be achieved when people are making progress in real-time towards more fulfilling lives.

I welcome work with people of all kinds who are experiencing malaise of different sorts: anxiety, depression, relationship & family issues, learning & school difficulties—the list goes on. As a psychoanalyst, I understand the challenges of adulthood and childhood as interwoven, both in the context of one's current family and across the different moments of one's own psychic life & personal past. Though my approach shifts in response to the person (or people) I'm working with, my focus tends to fall on listening and finding language for whatever it is that those who see me are trying to express through means other than words.

My ideal client is someone who has been carrying a lot on their own and feels overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in a transition. They may look “fine” on the outside but feel disconnected or unsure on the inside. They want a steady, nonjudgmental space to make sense of their thoughts and emotions, understand their patterns, and feel more grounded. Their goal is to find clarity, balance, and a version of life that actually feels like theirs.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
