When appropriate, I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, psychodynamics, and mindfulness.
I believe that therapy is a space for getting in touch with your life, exploring what's led you to this moment, and envisioning a future that you can believe in. Drawing from my previous career in improvised music, I'm particularly interested in creatively exploring issues such as perfectionism, anxiety, low self-esteem, gender roles and socialization, relationships, spirituality, and creating purpose.

In essence, this means that we’ll work together to discover what is meaningful to you, explore how your past influences your present, foster compassionate acceptance for the parts of yourself that tend to be self-critical, and develop coping skills to manage feelings of overwhelm.
Our lives deserve celebration, not constraint. When life feels heavy, we’ll work together to lighten the load. As a Chinese-American who’s navigated the complexities of expectation, community, and self-discovery, I’m passionate about supporting others through similar journeys.
The heart of my approach lies in creating a supportive and affirming space for all of us who are navigating life’s complexities, especially those from East Asian, LGBTQ+, creative, and academic communities. I understand the unique challenges that can come with cultural and familial expectations, identity exploration, and the pressures of high achievement.

My beliefs regarding the human intrinsic desires for love and acceptance lead me to foster a loving, warm, and nonjudgmental space for clients to heal from past events.
I would describe myself as warm and fierce, perhaps fiercely warm. I want to bring out your strengths with encouragement and accountability. This is your journey, and I will be a guide, aiding you towards your goals, whatever they may be. I work best with curious and engaged clients who want an active therapist to help them reach a deeper understanding of themselves. For a client to walk away with a deeper understanding of and a stronger, more loving, relationship with themselves - to me that is a success.

Hi, I’m Yitzchok Wagshul. One day, my young grandson asked me what kind of doctor I am. I’m a clinical psychologist, so I replied, “I’m the kind of doctor who helps sad people feel happy.” He looked at me and said, “Zaidy,” (that’s “Grandpa” in Yiddish) "that’s not being a doctor, that’s just being nice!” That’s a cute story, but I want to tell you something: the better part of therapy is “being nice.” I know a lot of psychology. But if I didn’t respect each person I work with, if I didn’t view them with complete acceptance and unconditional positive regard, all of that would be worthless, because no one would listen to me.

From there, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT) to help determine the values and principles that help people live their best lives.
My focus in individual therapy uses Attachment Theory as a springboard to better understand the underlying messages that shape how people see themselves as individuals and in relationships. Sharing a life with someone is hard. Having an expectation that this life will somehow match what we see in movies or read in books can make anyone feel like a failure. In my practice, I do my best to help couples find ways to connect, build trust, and learn how to turn toward each other regardless of past experiences and hurts.

Through a blend of Mindfulness, "parts work," EMDR, and acceptance and commitment therapy, I hold space for my clients to identify, feel, and accept their feelings while recognizing what is within their power to change.
Striving for mental health and wellness in a society with as many issues as ours is hard. Finding a therapist to support you in that, can sometimes feel even harder. What criteria do you base your decision on? Degrees, years in practice, areas of expertise, whether they still meet people in person... But what a profile and your research cannot tell you, happens to be the most important criteria: if the two of you will "fit.” The best and quickest way to know for certain is to schedule the appointment.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
