In my practice, I encourage patients to investigate thought patterns, engage in mindful exercises and explore ways of knowing which access the unconscious. My approach is warm, open and practical and geared towards helping you deepen self-awareness and self-knowing. Whatever your personal goal is, we can work on it together.

My approach is an eclectic mix of cognitive behavioral therapy,
mindfulness
, and motivational interviewing.
Beginning therapy can be a mixed emotional experience. It likely means that you’ve tried to resolve and improve things on your own but it has not worked. You might even be feeling uncertain about what this experience will be like. Will this person understand me? Will I feel better? There can be a lot of questions and concerns standing between you and beginning this process. But, there can also be relief in knowing there is help. You don't have to figure this out on your own. We will exchange judgment for curiosity, work on feeling safe in our feelings, confront what is no longer working, and learn new strategies and tools.

However, I have found that incorporating art, somatic awareness,
mindfulness
practices and dreams can be powerful ways to deepen the process, integrate unresolved trauma, and develop new insights and resources for living in alignment with your most authentic self.
I approach therapy from the perspective that healing comes through the caring and dynamic engagement created between two people. Our time together will be a collaboration that encourages mutual presence, relatedness and commitment. Research confirms the importance of this. While no specific technique is consistently effective in eliciting change, certain therapists who bring a particular quality to their work often are. I believe I am such a therapist and my clients consistently report feeling met, nurtured, and empowered by the work we do together.

mindfulness
techniques to help clients fully inhabit their bodies, find balance, and access internal wisdom.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I enjoy working with clients who wish to approach their challenges holistically. I guide clients to explore the mind-body-spirit connection, and I empower them to make lifestyle changes and use mind-body tools to reduce stress and build wellbeing. I support clients struggling with chronic stress, anxiety, life transitions, relationship struggles, and depression. I use body awareness and relaxation techniques to reduce the stress response, psychodynamic techniques to bring insight into past experiences, and CBT to transform thoughts and behaviors. Together, these modalities help clients get unstuck.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
