I have come to accept that the very thing that causes pain in our lives can be the opportunity for transformation and joy. Death, divorce, loss of employment, and now with Covid-19, are unavoidable human traumas. We simply can not defeat these losses. What we can do is bravely embrace our frailty and slowly discover our inherent well-being and resiliency. Through a trusting therapeutic relationship , you can begin to mend the fragments and feel the soft strength within you.

A trusting and engaged relationship between therapist and patient can provide a safe environment for exploration and change.
Are you seeking a life that feels more joyful, connected and in-control? With the right support, you can be happier, more deeply connected to yourself and other people, and gain control over extreme emotions or behaviors. In my practice, I encourage patients to investigate thought patterns, engage in mindful exercises and explore ways of knowing which access the unconscious. My approach is warm, open and practical and geared towards helping you deepen self-awareness and self-knowing. Whatever your personal goal is, we can work on it together.

I bring to the therapeutic relationship more than fifteen years of experience working with adults, children, and families, using both verbal and non -verbal techniques.
I provide a safe, welcoming place to bring your thoughts and feelings, inner conflicts and concerns and your hopes for change. We will work together to understand patterns that no longer serve you and may be contributing to emotional pain. Whether you have issues around intimacy, relationships, parenting, work dissatisfaction, overcoming creative blocks or overwhelming feelings that keep you from creating a richer, more purposeful life, therapy can be life changing. For children, play therapy in addition to talk can help get to the root of difficult behavior in conflicts with peers, at school and with family.

As a therapist in a post pandemic world, my focus will be on assisting you in improving your overall quality of life. The social and emotional impacts of Covid have been felt across the world in many different ways. Whether it's unresolved relationship issues, identity issues, feeling low & unfulfilled, feeling anxious and overwhelmed - a mixture of these things might have been your reality prior to March 2020. You're not alone. I can tell you that our work together will be collaborative, effective, and engaging. I’ll always keep it real (and kind). I treat individuals, couples & families - both traditional and non-traditional.

I have worked extensively with children, adults, and couples , navigating anything from life stressors to acute and ongoing traumas, to a desire to simply feel more connected to yourself and others.
Searching for a therapist can feel discouraging at times and raise endless questions. What exactly am I looking for? Will I feel understood? Would I even benefit from therapy? However, once you find the right fit, the transformative nature of the therapy relationship can help you find your voice and a true sense of direction. I approach therapy from a place of humor, curiosity and an honest desire to help you uncover those places where you feel most stuck in order to build the life that you want.

I believe that for therapy to be most helpful, the client must feel comfortable in the relationship with the therapist.
Drawing from my background in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, CBT, mindfulness, somatic therapy, and dance/movement therapy, I use an eclectic approach tailored to your individual needs to help you overcome obstacles to leading a richer, more satisfying, and more meaningful life. Some of the things I can help you with are: anxiety, depression, relationship issues, family stressors, managing chronic illness, caregiver stress, body image, self-esteem, life transitions, artist's issues and creative blocks, panic attacks, trauma, and life changes.

Hi! My name is Jillian Hollmann and I’m a therapist based in New York. My areas of expertise include depression, social anxiety, self-esteem issues, and relationship difficulties. Rather than focus on problems, I point people in the direction of discovering and using their strengths to build the more satisfying life that they want. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck. You may be anxious about leaving a steady job to explore a creative passion, or whether to stay in a relationship . You might feel so depressed that you can’t motivate to do almost anything.

The tools I use are broadly psycho-dynamic, emphasizing insight & the healing power of the relationship between us.
People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons. Anxiety or sadness. Grief, divorce or chronic illness. Some are tearful or angry—lonely—can’t get out of bed. Some may just be struggling to organize themselves to get out the door in the morning You may long for an enthusiasm you once had, or a partner or companion who feels like home. —Maybe you’re hoping to find that sense of home within yourself. Is your child shy or anxious? Have school mornings become a battle zone? I bring over 20 years' experience to the pleasure of helping children, adults & parents overcome whatever has them -stuck-

Out of the therapy process, can come positive and powerful transformation in your relationship to yourself and to others.
Therapy clarifies what has and hasn't worked in one's life. Together we will find a way to make your desired changes, so you can live a more fulfilling and authentic life. I provide a compassionate and honest environment in which you can feel heard and deeply understood. Guiding clients to discover their truths is, in large part, how I see my role, throughout which feelings around intimacy, loss, shame, and anger are often central themes. Couples counseling , addiction, divorce, co-parenting, sexual identity and sexual dysfunction issues are some of my specialties.

Hi, I’m Katherine, and I’m glad you found me. I love working with individuals and couples who seek to carve out a path of hope and newly imagined potential for themselves. Whether that’s moving through a transition, trauma, loss, or just wanting to feel “unstuck”, I accompany my clients through the muddy waters of emotions and life circumstances toward greater clarity and new possibilities, finding a more full version of self. Attuning to your own well of intuition and finding a sense of direction within your own dreams is what we can work toward together.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
