We are far more complex than the final product, we are often found within the process. I believe we are all multi-faceted individuals whose stories are representative of our most authentic selves. My goal is not to claim absolute knowing or complete understanding of your experiences but to always remain a humble student to your truth.

I call my practice The Community Couch because the name feels inclusive and accessible - like private therapy should be. I want you to be able to see me for therapy whether you work at a corporation, a small non-profit, or for the city; as a retiree who has Medicare; as someone with Medicaid who relies on affordability; or as someone who needs to pay out-of-pocket but can't unless the rate is reasonable. I accept several public and private insurance plans to help you stay in-network, and for out-of-pocket payers, my rates are fair and flexible. I have a few no-fee appointments for clients facing more complex barriers to care.

I believe that we are equipped with incredible resilience. While we cannot control the obstacles and challenges that life throws our way, we have a tremendous ability to choose how to react to them. Through the quality of our relationships, mindfulness, and acceptance, we have more power than we realize in improving the quality of our lives. Through my clinical training, I have worked extensively with the LGBTQ community. I have experience counseling individuals, couples, and groups.

When working with adults, my ideal client is motivated to seek change in their life. They are looking to build skills to overcome feelings of anxiety and depression by looking inward and doing the work at the root of the challenge. My clients and I work together toward identity development and a better sense of self. When working with children and teens, my ideal client is one who struggles to use their voice to express their emotions and their needs. Through play and games, I help them find the confidence to discover their unique identities!

Sometimes the best way out of the darkness is to have a companion illuminate the path in front of you. My role as your therapist is to be that person, and to hold that light as we journey out of the darkness and onto the path of healing and growth together.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
