Adults and families that partner with me are seeking guidance, compassion, goals that lead (not frustrate), a future plan and a "toolbox" that supports your transformation. You can see the specializations in my intro, and you may know acronyms like CBT, (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT, REBT, ACT and these are foundations for the process of understanding emotions, behavior, patterns, the life you have lived and where you wish to take it. Mind/body work is another arm of gaining confidence and reaching goals. Our work will yield a pattern of new reactions and behaviors and the future you make.

It's the treatment relationship that is special.
I see adults from 18 - 88 years of age, from diverse ethnic, cultural, religious backgrounds and LGBTQIA. I have been trained to treat and continue to see patients with depression, anxiety, chronic pain and illness, obsessive-compulsive, eating disorders, anger, drugs, alcohol, post traumatic stress, interpersonal, relationship and intra psychic issues. Many, but not all of my patients work in creative fields, education and athletics. I run a group via zoom. Many of my patients are in individual and group concurrently. The combination of modalities helps patients to understand issues and work through them in real time.

I enjoy working with couples who are interested in an open / polyamorous relationship . I have found that short-term therapy can be incredibly useful in setting up these types of arrangements when boundaries, trust, and communication are paramount. I also work with couples who are struggling with these issues in closed relationships. It is my goal to help you develop mutual respect, understanding, and empathic communication. The individuals that I work most effectively with are those experiencing a big life transition (new baby, divorce, job, graduation, etc) with challenges coping or have unresolved trauma of their past bubbling up

I work with individuals, couples and families focusing on mending relationships, anxiety, depression, substance use and other serious mental health issues including medication compliance.
Managing life’s challenges can overwhelm each of us. Whether juggling typical ups and downs or coping with loss, trauma, major upset or crisis, there are times we need compassion, an advocate, a fellow strategist or just someone to listen. Our relationship to ourselves, family, career, or life changes can sometimes seem out of control, leading to depression, anxiety or isolation. Therapy is a tool designed to help manage life’s challenges and bring clarity, perspective and a sense of well-being.

I believe it is critical that we build a therapeutic relationship where you are able to feel safe, unjudged, and able to exhale some of the stress and trauma that you have been carrying.
Throughout my career I have come to learn we often do not have words to describe the trauma and pain that we have survived, this is where I can help you identify what treatment will work best for your unique experience. I utilize a strengths-based trauma informed integrative approach, recognizing that every person has skills that they have utilized to allow them to get this far in life, building upon these skills through learning and most importantly healing the root cause of this pain.

I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship in meeting clients’ therapeutic goals.
I have the privilege of accompanying clients as they go through some of the most painful and some of the most joyous times of their lives. I see therapy as a journey that the client and therapist take together with the therapist playing the role of a traveling companion, guide, and interpreter. I have extensive experience providing counseling services to adolescents, adults, and families in various clinical settings. The focus of treatment includes improving self-image, changing negative self-talk, and working through trauma. My approach is collaborative, working together to define and achieve therapy goals.

My areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, career issues, relationship difficulties, cultural adjustment, loss, trauma, and adjusting to new situations.
I am often described as a warm, empathic person who creates a comfortable, supportive, and safe therapeutic environment. Unlike the distant, silent psychoanalyst stereotype, I am a real person in the room. I respond to what you tell me, ask questions, and will even share a laugh with you. My approach is based on the premise that relationships are essential in shaping who we are as people and how we experience the world.

What the science tells us is that the relationship between therapist and client is the key.
Many clients in my Fort Greene practice are suffering from depression and anxiety. Both these strong emotions can rob you of joy in life, your energy, and your interest in connecting with others. Many people underestimate the impact of these strong emotions on your relationships, your productivity, and your health. Freeing yourself from the paralyzing trap of depression and anxiety will give you new energy to move on in your life.

My approach in the therapeutic relationship integrates various theoretical perspectives which serve as the guide in our work.
Famed poet Maya Angelou once said, “there is no greater agony then bearing an untold story inside you”. I believe we all have untold stories. Our life stories can produce anxiety, depression, emotional discomforts, and be a source of unresolved pain. With over 20 years’ experience I can support you in this therapeutic journey to gain awareness, clarity, and understanding into internal beliefs about self that interrupt healthy life patterns. In my career I have worked extensively with individuals and couples to address an array of life challenges, including trauma histories, anxiety, and depression.

I believe that the basis of healing in therapy stems from the collaborative relationship that we build together and I'd love to hear from you about starting your own therapeutic journey.
I specialize in working with highly sensitive people, queer women, TGNC folks, neurodivergent young adults, and creatives that often find themselves feeling “too sensitive” or “not enough” in their relationships. Many of my clients find themselves struggling to be their most authentic selves and feel genuinely seen and understood by those around them. I help my clients learn to "unmask" and strive towards the sense of safety they’ve longed for in their relationships with themselves and others while gaining a deep understanding of their own needs and boundaries as sensitive people.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
