I have experience working with depression,
anxiety
, family conflict, self-harm, impulsivity, and grief.
We can all get trapped in a way of thinking or relating to the world that does not serve our end goals. I work with clients to help them become aware of these patterns, understand their origin and utility, while at the same time fostering the freedom, perspective, and skills to break away from these patterns when needed. I view therapy as a co-investigative process, where you and I can look together, with neutrality, curiosity and compassion, at the forces that are shaping your emotional life, and see if there might be a different way of experiencing the world.

I love being a therapist and I bring curiosity, humor, and intelligence to our work together. Ultimately, you come to therapy to explore your own concerns, dreams, and goals. I seek to be an engaged and open-minded partner in this process. Whether you are looking to improve your relationships, struggling with
anxiety
/depression, or seeking to better understand your own motivations and patterns, I can be a skilled guide.

I am experienced in working with clients who are struggling with
anxiety
, depression, relationship issues, life transitions or adjustments, grief, and self-esteem.
Everyone deserves a space in their lives in which they feel heard, acknowledged, accepted, and safe. Finding the right therapist and imagining how it might feel to open up to someone new can be difficult as well as emotionally draining. In understanding some of these challenges, I facilitate a comfortable and non-judgmental space in which you can feel comfortable being vulnerable. I take a person-centered and strengths-based approach to therapy, and believe that a strong therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is one of the most important aspects of our work.

I often hear this from my clients “I am an angry/depressed/anxious person!” However, your depression/
anxiety
/anger is just a part of you, it is not all of you. I am interested in exploring this angry/depressed/anxious part with you. But I encourage you to notice other parts in you that were forgotten or hidden. I will support you to be aware and utilize these other parts. I invite your creativity, curiosity and playfulness. I might ask you to be certain parts of you such as letting you speak from the angry part and exaggerate it! All the parts are invited and accepted in this safe space.

Life is a complicated and often overwhelming experience. Stress,
anxiety
, and depression are common reactions to abnormal circumstances. It’s easy to get lost in the motions of everyday life- managing your career, relationships, and responsibilities often take precedence over your mental health. I believe that you already have what it takes to be better adjusted and more content. I will help you strengthen your existing coping mechanisms and learn new strategies to reframe your perspective. You will become more in tune with your emotional needs, learn how to communicate them effectively, and distinguish what no longer serves you.

I have 10+ years of experience working with a range of people experiencing
anxiety
, depression, life transitions, family conflict, and symptoms of severe, persistent mental illness (SPMI).
Life is about change and some changes are more difficult to navigate than others. When we are stressed, anxious or depressed, it is a sign that our lives are out of balance. My focus is on providing a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental and compassionate space for adults, couples, and families to share their experiences and to help navigate through some more difficult life changes [positive or negative]; to create more balance in your life. I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to make changes to improve their lives, find purpose, and meaningful fulfillment.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
