The collective
grief
of the pandemic has left us facing anxiety and unstability we may have already been managing before, but it's now magnified by the
loss
of so much of what we remember having. Emerging feelings can include
grief
, depression, relationship issues, parenting stress, and even anger. This can leave us feeling isolated and alone as we struggle to navigate through the monotony and difficulties of our new every day.

Therapy is about making meaning. Yes, most people start the process to develop coping skills and receive guidance during stressful times or life transitions, but that’s only the beginning of what it can achieve. If you approach this experience with curiosity and openness, I will help you unpack your history, identify patterns and make meaningful changes that leave you feeling like you are writing your own story.

Whether you are experiencing
grief
, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, cultural/familial problems, etc.
My goal is to help shift mindsets and help navigate the discussion as to why caring for your mental health is just as imperative as your physical health. It can be difficult to begin the journey of therapy, talk about our traumas, and make the connections needed to begin our healing process. As your therapist, I will ensure that a safe, non-judgmental space is created so you can be equipped with the tools to live your most fulfilling life. I strive to help my clients find peace, comfort, and self-love that will guide them through life in a meaningful way.

I work with individuals, couples and families confronting issues of depression, anxiety, stress, relationship problems,
loss
, parenting issues, aging, trauma and alcohol/substance use.
Life experiences can bring pain and conflict resulting in depression, anxiety and coping with substances. I frequently hear the expression of loneliness, emptiness and feeling unfulfilled in people's lives and the sadness, disappointment and anger over relationships with themselves, partners, family and friends that fail to satisfy those needs. Experience has taught me that feeling heard and understood generates a sense of hope and stimulates movement toward insight through exploration and examination of one's inner life. Psychodynamic psychotherapy offers the framework and space for this work, leading to corrective emotional experiences and a more satisfying life and relationships.

I have a passion for working with couples at all stages of the life cycle. Premaritals, empty nesters, LGBT couples, couples with young children seeking to balance parenting with time for self and partner, couples needing support around sexuality and commitment issues, couples at a crossroads.... Much of my early therapeutic training was in Hospice
bereavement
counseling. Through that experience I became drawn to therapeutic encounters with the potential for spiritual renewal. In recent years I've connected with that initial sense of generativity and meaning through the practice of couples therapy, most notably in work as a premarital counselor.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
