Psychological and emotional problems that cause depression, anxiety, excessive anger, low self confidence, guilt/shame, along with relationship and work conflicts, can actually cause more suffering than physical illnesses.
Since 2005, I have been clinical faculty of the Weill Cornell Medical College and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where I teach medical doctors courses each year on counseling skills, personality types, and evidence based talk therapy research. I help people get to the root of their problems so they can find real, lasting change and growth.

I am most interested in helping with conflict--within oneself (depression, grief, anxiety, anger), within relationships (abuses, infidelities, aggression, passivity), and within children (bullying, withdrawal, oppositional behaviors, social media issues).
I want to get to know you. I want to get to know you so that I can help you to get to know yourself--your original self, the self you are today, the self you want to be tomorrow. I want you to get to know me. I have more than twenty years of experience helping people help themselves. I have an M.Div. degree (Master of Divinity), an MSW degree, and I am a NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker. If I cannot help you, I will refer you to someone I think can.

Any therapy begins with a surface challenge causing life discomfort, where clients seek to "fix," "change," "get rid of," or "not feel/experience" issues like anger, relationship intimacy, anxiety, or decision-making difficulties. As trust builds in the therapeutic relationship, we delve deeper into untangling complex situations, considering cultural background and unique perspectives. Therapy facilitates changes on the level of values, life perspectives, self-reliance, and self-worth. Change takes time; just as it took years to form old habits, adopting new approaches is a gradual process.

My style and beliefs are to create a safe environment within which individuals, couples, and families can explore their issues and challenges. I do this using brief solution focused therapy embedded in a narrative view. This means that I assist people in seeing their lives in more healthy ways as they overcome the challenges in their lives. This occurs in an atmosphere of empowerment and growth.

I work with first and second generation, Caribbean, Black and Spanish speaking populations. I work mostly with women and femmes. My goal as a therapist is to bring people out of a survival mode to feel more secure in their thoughts and emotions. If you are constantly worried about trying to control your environment or protect yourself from it, it’s hard to create space for self-reflection and change. Together we will work to create a space of calmness and safety to unravel your deepest truths and strive to seek them out.

Trained and certified in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for Psychosis, Panic Disorder, and Anger Management, IPT (Inter Personal Psychotherapy) for Depression.
Often our mental health issues are triggered by the highly demanding lifestyle in a stressful environment. We are not able to process all the issues we face all by ourselves. We need professional perspectives of our issues. In therapy I help patients analyze their issues in a scientific manner. My approach is holistic: health, body, mind, spirit, biology, and the environmental factors. Every human being has potentials to overcome their problems through time, patience, insight, using proper resources, and applying their inner strengths. I have faith in my patience. My motto: Educate. Empower. Evolve. I am inspired by what I see!

Let me be brief: I work with a multitude of issues and problems that relate to: couples, anxiety, depression and anger management.
As an Individual, Group and Marital therapist I diagnose the problem and set the means for resolution. I make extremely complicated symptoms, problems and personality issues into a clearly defined treatment plan . Nothing mysterious. After I show you what needs to be done I will, with your permission, help you get there.

What started as a simmering frustration has become an all-consuming anger, causing conflict in yourself and your relationships.
In therapy, you’ll move past the rage-and-shame cycle and regain emotional control without making yourself small. You deserve a life that feels like a sanctuary, not another battleground. Our goal isn’t to get rid of your fire, but to build a hearth for it so it warms your life instead of burning it down. You'll learn to harness your rage to move with ease.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
