I am most comfortable treating anxiety, depression, work, life stressors and grief.
I create a safe space where you are comfortable and free to share and express yourself. I feel empowering and motivating to work with me. My journey of becoming a therapist was off to a great start while in school and obtaining my hours. As time went on it seemed almost impossible.

Getting to the root of your pain: learning to deal with it, building upon your strengths then learning to act versus react to people and events, takes a mindfulness that I will help you develop. I have a long history of working with diverse populations, who have developed varied problems: Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Marital, Parenting, Trauma, and more. My approach is to work with my client’s strengths; help them develop new views and skills and then organize them into a plan that works for them in obtaining their goals. I also have associates through my group Serenity Psychotherapy LLC to provide the best match for you.

After years of working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and specializing in trauma informed therapy I see trauma as the root cause most common mental health struggles such as anxiety and depression.
My goal is to create a safe non-judgmental space where you can explore patterns that were born out of survival and/or dysfunction through a lense of compassion and understanding for what you've lived through. From there, we can begin to build skills for emotional regulation and rework old patterns that no longer contribute to your overall wellbeing.

Life has a way of handing us chapters we didn’t exactly ask for: anxiety, burnout, relationship struggles, family dynamics, self-doubt, big transitions, and all the unexpected plot twists in between.
Therapy is a place to slow things down, get honest about what’s really happening, and make sense of your story. My approach is warm, candid, and grounded in the belief that there is real courage in showing up, being honest, and as Brené Brown would say: owning your story (even the messy chapters).

I specialize in working with young adults through seniors (24 years & older) who are experiencing anxiety, health issues, stress, trauma and aging-related issues.
Everyone has a story and therapy should reflect that. It can be hard to know where to start. You may feel overwhelmed or question whether your issues are worth talking about. You may not know how you got here or which way to go, but together we can find a way to get you back on track or discover a new narrative. To me, it is important that you never feel judged, no matter how your feelings may feel to you. My goal is to create a compassionate environment that inspires hope. A place where you can feel heard, understood and welcomed.

I have experience with various psychological concerns, specializing in anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, and relationship challenges.
I create a nonjudgmental, safe space for my patients to explore their challenges. I approach my work with you through a trauma-focused lens and acknowledge how emotion is central to human experience. I draw from relational and psychodynamic approaches, focusing on how our past pains can influence our present patterns and cycles. Through deep listening, I am able to guide you through your own journey of self-awareness and reflection. I completed my education in Mental Health Counseling at the University at Albany, where I also served as a peer assistant and training instructor for a mental health and crisis hotline.

I'm especially drawn to supporting young adults and women navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, motherhood, and the everyday stress of balancing life's many responsibilities. I take a holistic approach to therapy, recognizing that emotional well-being is shaped by many parts of life, including experiences, relationships, and daily demands. I see therapy as a space to slow down, better understand what you’re going through, and begin finding ways forward that feel supportive and realistic. You do not have to have everything figured out to start. This can simply be a place to talk, process, and feel heard.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
