As a man of color, creating a safe space for our culture is a priority in my practice.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on teaching clients specific skills to overcome everyday obstacles. CBT allows clients to gain better insight into their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. No one person can change our lives in a 45-minute session. However, with patience, trust, and commitment to a better self, growth will come.

My practice includes 70% male and 30% female clients.
The ideal client for me is a young, mature, or elder adult who is motivated by their suffering or by their character to learn something new about themselves, to resolve some issue which is causing them anguish or anxiety, or both. Therapy is as much an educational process as a healing process. Both learning and healing are key elements of successful therapeutic collaboration. I am suited to treat any of the specialties designated in my profile. I have network of colleagues through which I make referrals for issues that require specialists' attention such as severe addictive issues or veterans' PTSD.

I work with men and teens to build grit, purpose and direction.
Motivation, capacity and insight; these three pillars are central to our ability to change and grow. I help those dealing with anxiety, depression, addiction, numbness and confusing behavior/relational patterns build a better understanding of their struggles and the skills needed to find relief from them.

Among my areas of specialization is an abiding interest in working with men, many of whom find it difficult to sit with their feelings.
Our capacity to connect, both with ourselves (i.e. our passions, feelings, and body) and with others, is crucial to our feelings of well-being. When we connect, we generally feel a sense of aliveness in ourselves and the world. When we can't connect, we feel anxious, isolated, empty, or depressed. I feel my job is to help clients to more fully connect to the range of their experiences. I help adults, adolescents, and couples explore why they lose connection. I help them identify, understand, and overcome the deep root of their disconnection. I help them find well-being, which gives me great joy.

As a lifelong learner, I follow my intuition and beliefs. I have a bachelor’s degree in philosophy that provides an in-depth understanding of humanity and the evolution of ideas. I also graduated in social communications and journalism that informs my desire and efforts to be a strong advocate for social justice. I have employment experience as both a teacher of philosophy and a reporter. I moved to New York to experience the city’s diverse social and cultural movements and to further develop my own personal self-understanding. To fulfill this goal, I graduated in a master’s degree in social work, with a major in psychotherapy.

Life is challenging, and sometimes we need extra support to help cope with life's difficulties. Whether you're looking for someone to talk about life's big questions (Who am I? Why am I here? What ought I to do? What meaning can be found in the universe?) or to feel relief from symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress, we can work together to help you meet your therapy goals. Since entering the social work field, I’ve worked with diverse populations in community mental health clinics, nonprofits, research centers, colleges, and hospitals, and have particular experience working with LGBTQ people and college-age students.

Welcome to my practice. Reaching out and seeking help is a brave first step. I fully understand and appreciate how difficult seeking help is. For 19 years, I have been helping adults and adolescents face life difficulties. At times, these difficulties stem from life circumstances and at times they come from within but they almost always feel overwhelming. The good news, is that help is just a phone call away. I have helped people struggling with depression, anxiety, work and school difficulties, marital and relationships issues.

After over 30 years as a therapist and clinical supervisor in hospitals, clinics, and private practice, it is clearer to me than ever that successful therapy is all about the relationship. Going into therapy is a courageous decision, often fraught with anxiety about what to expect. I do not expect my clients to share difficult thoughts and feelings until and unless they feel safe, understood and not judged, allowing for the essential therapeutic element: trust. My clients know that I will never betray their trust in our alliance. It has always been my professional mantra, and it always will be.

We understand how daunting and even intimidating seeking help can be. Both culture and society have conditioned us to look at therapy through a negative lense, as something that is punitive, unnecessary, and in some cases as a sign of weakness. On the contrary , participating in therapy can be a liberating experience. It is a place where you can begin your process of obtaining closure to unresolved conflicts, that every so often seem to come to the surface and interfere with your daily life. We are here to genuinely assist you in making sense of it all. No Judgement, and our services are confidential.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
