Do you know a teenager or young adult who needs help navigating the challenges of life in today’s world? Does it seem difficult for them to regulate their emotions? Are they struggling to find their group of friends? Do you want them to be happy, healthy, and safe, but aren’t sure what to do? Hi, my name is Andrea Myer and I am a personal counselor and coach helping teens and young adults transition into adolescence and adulthood. Whether they're working through anxiety and depression, struggling to find their peer group, or need to figure out their future career, I can help.
I can take a good guess at what brought you here. You are most likely an over-thinker, self-doubter, anxious, perfectionist, food binger or restrictor, & feel unworthy most of the time. I see you friend. You landed in the right place even though you may have questioned seeking help. We can help you feel more grounded and confident in making decisions. Life transitions can feel lonely and isolating. Elevate Your Life can support you as you navigate these transitions without losing who you are. As the owner, it was my personal mission to make sure we have a variety of services available for each person.
Do you often re-play your interactions, thoughts or feelings of your day when you lay in bed at night? Do you find yourself overthinking and worrying about how others viewed you? Do you feel ashamed about not being a perfectionist or pleasing those around you? Past experiences or unresolved traumas usually result in habits or behaviors that feel toxic or unwanted. These experiences impact relationships and views of who you are. Slowly you may feel lost or disconnected. Are you ready for your voice to be heard and build relationships that feel respectful and emotionally connected? Do you want to give yourself permission to be you?
My down-to-earth, humor-filled, and practical therapeutic approach enables me to form a strong alliance with my patients. I am passionate about enabling and empowering my patients to maximize joy and minimize suffering in life by identifying and living by your deepest values. Therapy with me will not merely consist of you recounting the events of your week while I nod my head and tell you that I know you can figure out how to change, improve, or handle it. I am not just a “paid friend;” rather, my patients need me to (a) understand their suffering and then (b) teach them HOW to make things better.
As a counselor, and an advocate for families, I work closely with children/adolescents that are having a difficult time dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Many are seeing peace in a volatile situation, or are learning how to deal with intense emotions. Family changes can also affect children, so I use integrated arts and/or child centered play therapy to help children process the grief and loss of divorce/separation and to embrace change.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State with several years experience working with adolescents and adults of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds struggling with problems related to mental health and substance use. During my career, I have worked in a variety of health care settings, providing both individual and group therapy.
I use a short term, practical psychotherapy approach. I believe that all human beings have problems at various points in their lives and that these problems can best be dealt with in an objective, honest, and caring climate. Labeling, stigmatizing and categorizing people often makes problems worse. Objective, and yet personal, individualized treatment approaches are always taken. While the goal of therapy is to minimize, if not eliminate, the problems people struggle against, it is also important to recognize, acknowledge, and enhance people's talents, abilities, and strengths. Client confidentiality is rigorously maintained at all times.
Congratulations to you for making this first step. I know this isn't the most exciting thing you could be doing, scanning through therapist after therapist, and finding the "perfect fit" is hard. If you're looking for somebody to make you feel like yourself again, or maybe a new version of yourself, you've found her. Whether it be working through depression & anxiety, healing from your past or simply those overwhelming running thoughts that don't seem to stop, I can do my best to help, and if your lucky, maybe share a few laughs along the way too.
The decision to start therapy is a very personal and courageous one. Therapy is a process of change, empowerment, and self-growth. I have worked with people from all age groups, ranging from children to older adults. I have a particular interest in the psychological adjustments of parenthood. It is through the struggles in life where we emerge stronger and more compassionate people.

Clients come to me when they are overwhelmed and weighed down by whatever life has thrown their way. They are searching to understand themselves and their world around them, looking for someone to walk along their journey with them. They want a nonjudgmental place to feel safe to explore, create, and release; a place to unpack those difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences and move towards healing. They are hoping to find and nurture a sense of purpose and belonging. They survived and adapted, they are resilient, and they are ready to experience a sense of peace.
A solution of the past can be the downfall of your present as well. I believe that in order to truly help someone; one must first seek to understand and then to be understood. Treat yourself as if you are someone worth being helped. To succeed in doing so, one must gain a deeper level of self-awareness through connecting the unconscious patterns of today, to the past traumatic events we have experienced. Understanding that the external world is a direct reflection of what is happening in the internal world, your perception can be a deciding factor to a new reality. Your life is what you choose it to be.
Living with symptoms of poor sleep, unhealthy relationships, challenges at work, or a critical internal voice that constantly beats you up leads to a poor quality of life. Left untreated, these situations will have a physical, emotional, spiritual and financial impact on you. When you need to improve your skills to cope with stress and challenges in life, Gavia Life Care Center is here to provide professional mental health counseling that is accessible and timely.
Choosing to seek counseling and then finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming and at times, impossible. As a therapist, I can understand the courage and thoughtfulness in this choice. I have been working with individuals and couples and walking with them on their journey to healing for over 12 years. Meeting people where they are, listening to their goals, and building upon their strengths and life experience is the most important part of this work. Together, we can rediscover your strengths and explore how you prefer to see yourself moving forward.
At Brain Works ROC, we're big believers of the "it's always darkest before dawn," philosophy. We emphasis solution focused therapies that provide opportunities to turn painful experiences into wisdom and strength, so you can achieve your goals, feel great about you and not just feel as though you're muddling through.
