I work with patients who are struggling with intimacy-the push/pull of relationships, couples' conflicts, depression , anxiety, trauma, life management concerns, work issues, and GLBT issues.
Do you sometimes feel at a distance from your own life and relationships, a loss of initiative and aliveness to your experiences? Or become overly involved, quick to feel anxious and overwhelmed? In an engaged, supportive and interactive working relationship, you and I can identify and build upon strengths, goals and values, lend force and action to your search for meaning and belonging, and resolve emotional struggles. For example, you may want to target a specific issue that will involve learning new skills or adjusting thought patterns and behaviors in a life management model.

I help individuals with PTSD, anger, anxiety, and depression , as well as couples in relationships that are not so much broken, as stuck in negative patterns that rob the couple of closeness and connection.
I am a clinical psychologist working with adults, children, and couples. For over 6 years I have worked with combat veterans and their families. Prior to becoming a psychologist I was in the Marine Corps for 14 years. As therapist, my job is to meet you wherever you are and use my professional training and personal experience to help you move forward in the direction of your choosing to achieve your objectives. My goal is to give you the tools you need so that you don't need me. Therapy is about making you stronger, not making me feel smarter.

The techniques I may use are Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy which can help heal or resolve emotional stress, depression and phobias.
It's hard to think about starting therapy. And maybe it's never worked in the past. And often it can be more difficult when you've experienced what is considered a trauma, even if you don't think of your life that way. You just know you're not happy and haven't been in a long time. Sometimes therapy works when you try one more time. Maybe you just have to be ready.

I believe that many difficulties are related to our unconscious thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and the unhealthy defenses that we erect, usually in childhood, to protect ourselves against hurt. Once helpful, but now outdated, these defenses prevent self-awareness and the constructive resolution of our problems. These blocks to awareness can contribute to symptoms such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression , interpersonal problems, addictive behaviors, etc. I can assist you in developing healthier coping skills, i.e, to identify your defenses, explore your underlying feelings, and rediscover your authentic self.

Sometimes the struggle is real! Relationships, life, parenting, finding you, figuring out how to create the balance and feeling like you are getting your needs met. The movies and books make this all sound so easy, but in reality these things are a challenge. Having someone to partner with to break down each barrier and identify what path feels best can help open doors and avenues you didn't think were possible. If you are feeling stuck and unsure of how to proceed, lets connect and see if we can make a difference in your perspective. Lets give you the tools you need to make the best decisions that fit your life for the long-term.

When I work with adults, couples, families or children I believe taking a collaborative and introspective approach to treatment helps patients access their own wisdom and healing potential. We can often become disillusioned with ourselves or others as a result of deep pain, wounds, and burdens that we carry with us on a daily basis. For many of us, turning away or avoiding these difficulties is a natural reaction and attempt to cope with these struggles. Despite the temporary relief that may accompany this style of coping it often maintains extreme beliefs, negative feelings, and unproductive behaviors.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
