When the traditions of Mental Health are not meeting your needs-CALL. I am a clinician with Cross Connects, a small and personable group of providers founded in the Catskills who are dedicated to providing something different. We work towards providing a safe place to feel free to be yourself in the environment you feel most comfortable in ways that are best suited for you. Every person is different- shouldn't their treatment reflect that individuality? Telehealth is a great way to provide support at a time and place, and in a way that can bring an "out of the box" experience.

Hi. Are you feeling overwhelmed and anxious? Are you feeling disconnected from others and having a difficult time communicating needs and desires to loved ones? I can help with that. I have been working with people on communication and negotiation of needs for many years. Being raised in a foster home, by my adopted parents, has helped my gain skills that I would not have had the opportunity to acquire otherwise, such as, accepting everyone for who they are and where they come from regardless of their background.

An Ideal client is one who is willing to work actively with me to solve their issues. We work together to develop a treatment plan and reach their goals. I especially enjoy working with anxious and phobic clients and see them face, confront and feel the freedom that comes from being phobic-free and more relaxed. I have a passion for working with victims of narcissists (bullies) who learn how to stand up to these people and no longer feel like a victim.

To borrow from Shakespeare, these are times that try our souls- how to navigate this time we are in? Being human means experiencing joys & sorrows, hurts and healing. At times, things happen to us that wound our sense of self & wellbeing, break our hearts & relationships, and leave us limping through our lives. The good news is, though we may be hurt in relationships, we can be healed in relationships and it does not have to be the same relationship. When we struggle to heal and grow, engaging with a professional healer can be helpful.

Feeling anxious all the time is such a crippling feeling and can feel like there is no escaping it. Just when one anxious thought starts to go away, another one shows up and takes its place. It can feel like an endless cycle of racing thoughts, worry, and fear about anything and everything. It’s hard to know when the anxiety will be over especially living in an anxiety-inducing world that is constantly changing which in turn leads to more anxiety. If this sounds like you, you're not alone!

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
