Sessions include role play, cognitive restructuring, coping skill-building, relaxation techniques and check-in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, adult child-parent issues and perinatal mental health.
Managing the demands of everyday life is increasingly challenging in today's world. Many folks are consumed by the demands / needs / expectations of others and fail to prioritize their own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. As time passes, ignored (or minimized) internal struggles negatively impact our relationships, joy for life and even physical health. Appropriately assigned psychotherapy can provide clarity and resolution to issues that may feel overwhelming. Restoring hope, confidence, dignity and purpose arms one with the tools for a more rich and peaceful tomorrow.

Let’s be honest, life can sometimes be hard to live, but it doesn’t have to be. Everyone is entitled to a life of joy. At times our circumstances, trauma, mental health diagnosis, and/or medical condition may seem to stand in the way of that. With the right therapist you can find joy and life can feel better to live.

I work with new and expecting moms and specialize in maternal mental health, with a focus on postpartum anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and the emotional transition into motherhood.
In my work, I often support moms returning to demanding careers while caring for a newborn and parenting on opposite schedules from their partner. Many feel responsible for everyone else but unsure where they fit anymore. Anxiety, constant worry, and intrusive thoughts are common, along with guilt for not enjoying motherhood the way they hoped they would.

Life gets heavy when you’re carrying a lot. Work, relationships, caregiving, parenthood, and somewhere in the middle of all of it, you stop making the list. I work with adults navigating anxiety, chronic stress, burnout, life transitions, and big identity shifts. Many of my clients are women, moms, and caregivers who are carrying the mental load, running on empty, and feeling disconnected from themselves. As a mom of two, I understand how easy it can be to lose yourself while caring for everyone else. I also support people who are rethinking their relationship with alcohol or substances.

The anxiety, the overwhelm, the snapping at your partner or children... it’s not who you want to be. You wonder how all the other women are holding it together—because most days, you feel like you're failing.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
