My main approaches are Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy although I derive from other modalities based on your needs and goals in therapy.
Life is a maze with many twists and turns. Your choices and actions will determine the next steps in life depending on which path you decide to take. In order to find a deeper meaning to understand who you are, what you want or how to build healthy relationships, it is important to have a therapist that is empathetic and understanding. A therapist who will meet you at your starting point and guide you towards fulfilling your journey. We can be our biggest critic but understanding your core values, needs, wants, and goals will help bring out the best version of YOU!

I would describe my style of practice as eclectic, drawing from psychodynamic , cognitive-behavior therapy, motivational interviewing and mindfulness practices.
Therapy is a powerful space for self-care and self-exploration. I strive to create a safe and accepting environment for my clients so they’re able to reflect on their experiences, struggles and strengths. I work in collaboration with clients to understand the dynamics and patterns in their relationships and behaviors so they can gain a deeper awareness of themselves and their needs. As a clinician of color, I understand the importance of exploring the intersectionality of culture, race and gender and I invite this into the therapy space.

My theoretical background includes psychodynamic psychotherapy.
As humans, it is our instinct to want connection. Connecting with others can be especially challenging if you've suffered from trauma, loss and abuse. These deeply painful, often early developmental wounds can resurface in our day to day lives. These wounds can leave us experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship strain and career challenges, just to name a few.

When working with individuals and families, I use a collaborative approach and integrate supportive, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic , mindfulness, and family systems orientations depending on the needs of each person.
At times in our lives, we may encounter challenging circumstances or a series of stressful life events that can be taxing and troublesome for anyone to navigate. Psychotherapy can help you build on your existing areas of strength, work through challenges that you are facing, and help you work to bring about changes you would like to make to improve your quality of life. In our clinical sessions, a therapeutically safe and empathic environment is provided as we work together on addressing your personal goals.

I am an experienced psychodynamic therapist who believes in using talk therapy, mindfulness, humor and skilled interventions within therapy sessions.
Life has many challenges, and we live in a world that tends to make us feel abnormal if we aren't happy all of the time. Psychotherapy provides an opportunity to heal and accept ourselves. Maybe you are feeling out of balance with the pressures of work and/ or personal relationships. Maybe anxiety and stress are causing you to lose sleep, feel depressed and/or to act out with excessive behaviors such as drinking too much or overeating. Maybe you can't control or stop a behavior that causes you shame or regret.

I utilize an eclectic approach, integrating psychodynamic , CBT, and humanistic therapies.
Are you reading through a number of profiles and feeling frustrated or even a bit lost? How will I know this is the right fit for me? Well, I understand, it can feel really dense. This is first step is brave; you have already initiated the process of wanting to understand yourself. It takes courage to talk about the things that fill you with anxiety, make you feel sad, or unwanted feelings that you have not felt comfortable sharing with others. Welcome to therapy!

I integrate 3 treatment modalities into my practice: psychodynamic psychotherapy, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Taking the initial steps to begin psychotherapy can be intimidating but the process of therapy has the potential to transform your life. Survival skills that may have helped us in the past may have become an obstacle to thriving in the present. This may contribute to feeling stuck in painful relationships, unrewarding jobs and struggling with depression and anxiety.

I use Contemporary Psychodynamic and Attachment Theory with Humanistic & Anti-oppressive systemic lens to assist clients in their healing.
The curious paradox is when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change. What I am is enough if I would only be it openly.' C.Rogers. This quote is at the core of my work as a psychotherapist. I believe that the path to healing begins with the experience of being truly seen and celebrated with all your identities and parts that make the whole of you. I make space to process the effects of trauma and any form of personal or social oppression getting in the way of embodying your true self. I am honored to support you in staying in your power and navigating the relationship to yourself, others and theworld in a more authentic way.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who utilizes both Cognitive Behavioral techniques and a psychodynamic framework to facilitate self-understanding, address your challenges, and help you fulfill your desired treatment goals.
Throughout our lives, we develop certain ways of dealing with painful feelings. These ways of coping help to shield and protect us from experiencing difficult and overwhelming emotions temporarily. However, over time, these approaches may no longer be effective and simply just serve as a band aid solution to deeper wounds that require more healing. My therapeutic approach will help you to better understand your behavioral and thinking patterns, where they stem from, why they no longer work, and to establish healthier strategies for managing emotional distress.

I draw from cognitive behavioral, person centered, and psychodynamic schools of therapy to help address issues in a goal oriented way while acknowledging the influence of past events on who and where we are today.
Life can be overwhelming, but there is no need to embark on your journey alone. As a licensed mental health counselor, my goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to examine the obstacles you are facing so that we can explore how to move forward. Some of the issues I help with include anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem, trauma, addictive behavior, and grief/loss.

Understanding your journey is unique, I utilize both CBT and DBT amongst other psychodynamic modalities.
To seek counsel and to make the conscious decision to ask for help is an act of courage. It is never easy to be vulnerable to another, let alone, allow someone into your world. Forman once said, “It is an act of bravery to feel your feelings.” I hold this statement to be true. As your therapist, it is my hope to be able to develop a therapeutic alliance with you to walk the journey of exploring and overcoming whatever challenges and obstacles you may be facing. By implementing several different types of clinical modalities including CBT, DBT, and Psychodynamic therapies, it is my goal to be able to meet you where you’re at

My training has allowed me to utilize many different therapeutic modalities, such as psychodynamic , relational, and cognitive-behavioral.
Asking for help is not easy, so congratulations on taking the first step toward self-improvement and fulfillment. Through our partnership, I hope to help you better understand yourself in terms of how you function in your personal relationships, and help you see patterns that may be causing distress. My style is one that primarily focuses on empathy and insight. Though talking about issues that come up in therapy may initially be difficult, with time you will notice you are seeing yourself in a new light, and that you are able to accomplish positive change.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
