It just won't stop. Life feels like a constant fight to stay above water. The sadness, the pain, the monotony of it all, is dragging you down. It's a constant fight against depression, but you aren't sure why. Once upon a time, you felt the possibility of happiness and joy, but now it's all about going through the motions, fighting against the sadness. And it's getting harder and harder to fake it. You're starting to wonder about the meaning of life; what the purpose of all of this is. You've tried coaching, talking to friends, maybe even some therapists, but nothing is sticking and you desperately need help getting out of this fog.

I integrate 3 treatment modalities into my practice: psychodynamic psychotherapy, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems ( IFS).
Taking the initial steps to begin psychotherapy can be intimidating but the process of therapy has the potential to transform your life. Survival skills that may have helped us in the past may have become an obstacle to thriving in the present. This may contribute to feeling stuck in painful relationships, unrewarding jobs and struggling with depression and anxiety.

Do you look successful on the outside but feel exhausted on the inside? Many of my clients are physicians, PhD candidates, and other high-achieving professionals who silently battle perfectionism, burnout, and the relentless pressure to keep it together. Others are first-generation adults juggling cultural expectations, family pressures, and the fear of letting someone down. If you’re tired of performing for everyone else while quietly losing yourself, you don’t have to keep doing this alone.

I incorporate somatic, parts-work ( IFS) and psychodynamic methods to explore underlying issues that may be contributing to the challenges you're facing.
I am a licensed creative arts therapist helping adults seeking relief from depression, anxiety, complex trauma and post-traumatic stress. I practice somatic and talk-based therapy methods to support connection between body and mind. Strengthening this connection can be a helpful resource for individuals who are healing from trauma, a rupture in a relationship, difficult life transitions, or overwhelming symptoms. Wherever you are on your path, I believe in supporting your goals by guiding you toward your own internal compass, and helping you recover your inherent potential for growth and change.

My approach is informed by contemporary psychodynamic, attachment theory with a Humanistic, Anti-oppressive systemic lens, as well as IFS, mindfulness, intuitive healing, and energy work.
The curious paradox is when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change. What I am is enough if I would only be it openly.' C.Rogers. This quote is at the core of my work as a psychotherapist. I believe that the path to healing begins with the experience of being truly seen and celebrated with all your identities and parts that make the whole of you. I offer an affirming and collaborative space for the exploration of Self, connecting to your Divine within through mind-body-spirit practices so that you can move beyond the unloving narratives getting in the way of embodying your true Self and curating the life that you envision.

Hi! I’m Melissa Feinman, a social worker specializing in creating empowering and playful spaces for clients to reimagine their relationships to their bodies, to others, and ultimately, to themselves. While I take therapy and meeting your needs seriously, healing doesn’t always have to be serious business.

These typically include multicultural, psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, and Internal Family Systems approaches.
I’ve seen firsthand how important mental health is, especially in cultures where it can be misunderstood or stigmatized. I have extensive experience working within a wide range of settings and populations, including severe mental health disorders and families in high-risk circumstances. In my practice, I support individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, identity issues, and everyday stressors.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
