Do you feel like your emotions control you? Life overwhelming? Maybe you're grieving or struggling with feelings of fear and loss. You can discover tools that will help you understand these emotions, as well as your strengths and you don't have to struggle with it on your own. Working with you, I will incorporate skills that I have gathered from my past experiences in public health, end-of-life care, gender-affirming care, and a Health at Every Size philosophy. I’m passionate in helping people better understand how their nervous systems work and affect their emotional well-being. I’m also passionate about helping people understand how a dysregulated nervous system leads to development of mental health conditions. It’s important for an individual to determine the focus of treatment and what they need to happen in order to consider enacting a change process. Sometimes someone just needs an active listener they can use as a sound board and to mirror back their experience. Empathy and validation are the cornerstone to my approach.

I recently expanded my practice, adding two clinicians to better serve those looking for therapy. At Guiding Steps Psychotherapy, our mission is to help people heal from trauma and other adverse life experiences, anxiety, and depression. We work with survivors of sexual abuse/assault, those who have experienced traumatic loss from death or infidelity, individuals suffering from addiction, and others working through traumatic adjustments such as loss of a job or severe illness. I also counsel couples working to improve their relationships, those discerning their futures, and others contemplating separation or divorce

Are you having difficulty in your relationships and wondering, "how do I make things better?" Are you experiencing a loss of self, feeling confused and/or depressed? Is it difficult to identify your feelings? Have your feelings become too painful to experience on your own? It is only natural to want to avoid feelings that are painful. It is our basic human instinct to avoid anything that is painful especially emotional pain. Unfortunately, avoiding pain results in maladaptive behavior and difficulties within relationships. Avoiding feelings can result in feeling numb and/or loss of self.

I have worked with clients with issues such as marital problems, but they improved self-esteem, advocacy, and assertiveness in therapy, which reduced conflict with their spouse. My ideal client is someone motivated to change at the onset of therapy, who is committed to attending regular therapy sessions, identifies their goals, and focuses on a collaborative process to achieve their goals.
