I believe that a good relationship with my clients is a necessary precondition to good therapy. I balance compassion and acceptance with a firm, challenging stance. After all, we don't grow from sitting in our comfort zones! My areas of expertise include treating eating, weight, and body image issues, mood and anxiety disorders, and helping people through difficult life transitions. While women's issues are a specialty, I have worked with clients with a range of gender identifications and I aim to provide gender affirming care. My clients are diverse by age, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, race, and ethnicity.

My goal is as a therapist is to assist clients in becoming their own best advocate as they negotiate personal life challenges. I have a special interest in mind body awareness and have incorporated meditative and relaxation strategies and biofeedback in my therapeutic work with clients from childhood through late adulthood. Additionally, I have trained ten years in Neurofeedback, a very specialized type of biofeedback, that engages the brain in changing itself. this is particularly helpful with chronic mental health issues including, but not limited to, ADD, Anxiety, Depression, Chronic Pain Syndromes, and PTSD. Neurofeedback is also beneficial for Peak Performance Training.

Asking for help is one of the hardest things we can do - congratulations for making it this far! If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, finding yourself relying on habits that don't feel healthy, or just feel that you are not living your fullest and happiest life, therapy can help. Life can feel overwhelming, and I believe that most everyone can benefit from working with a trained and skilled therapist at some point in our lives. Identifying and addressing problems head on takes ambition and courage, and having a safe space and empathetic support to do so is crucial.

I have experience in group therapy, particularly women’s issues and working with children and adolescents on skill building/distress.
I have been working with clients as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2021. I come from a primarily solution-focused narrative approach. Whether you are an individual, family or part of a relationship, we will work together to emphasize your strengths and progress toward your goals. My belief is that you are the expert in your life and I am here to help you unlock the tools you already have inside while building skills and healthier strategies for the stress you experience.

You feel like you are not where you should be in life, like other people have it figured out, but you have not. You have a wall up that is meant to protect you, but instead, makes friendships or relationships difficult. You may even find yourself sabotaging so others never find out what’s behind the wall. This may be from a traumatic event or a life-time of trauma where you felt like you were just trying to survive. Sometimes it’s hard to trust yourself to make decisions or trust that other people really like you. You try to distract yourself, but you keep finding yourself back in your own head feeling lost.

I understand the uncertainty clients face when considering therapy. They often view themselves as being "weak" for "needing" therapy. That is a challenge I often face as a therapist- the stigma of mental health. This stigma often keeps people suffering and stagnant rather than growing and healing. One of the several treatment modalities I utilize is psychoeducation as a therapeutic tool to help clients gain a better understanding of why and what they are feeling. For example, what are the symptoms of depression, anxiety, or PTSD? Why do I repeat the same behaviors that cause me to remain unsettled? How do I break the cycle?

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
