I work with individuals, couples, and families affected by
trauma
, chronic illness, and/or anxiety. I work from a
trauma
-informed, whole-body perspective drawing upon approaches such as mindfulness, EMDR, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. If you are reading this, you may feel tired of old patterns you find yourself in and overwhelmed by how to change them, or scared of the uncertainty of change. You are dealing with personal stressors on top of the impact of the pandemic and current events. Managing the discomfort that comes with change is hard, but necessary to move through life in a way that is satisfying and enjoyable.

Our ideal clients would be those who enjoy a more philosophical approach to better understanding him or herself. We work with the whole age spectrum, and we enjoy guiding clients toward a better understanding of his or her purpose of being in the world. Specifically, the issues that we specialize in include grief,
trauma
, spiritual enlightenment, coping skills, personal transformation, wellness, brainspotting, and changing one's behaviors through changing one's thought process. Regardless of the perceived assets or handicaps that one enters the world with, he or she must still find a way in order to survive and hopefully, thrive.

I am a
trauma
specialist and couples specialist as well as work with general mental health concerns.
Many folks who contact me want a relaxed, steady and confidential place to process traumas, improve their relationships, grieve a loss, have clinical supervision, or even build skills to manage anxiety and depression. We all have unique strengths as well as unique challenges, and both are a focus in therapy with me. Finding "The Right Fit" in a therapist is so important, whether that is with me or someone else. It is my goal to provide a space that is non-judgmental, attuned to your needs, engaging and genuinely empathetic. My ideal client is ready to practice doing "Small Things Often" and wants to work towards personal growth.

I am an EMDR certified therapist with specialty in attachment
trauma
and perinatal mental health. I love working with anxious, deep feeling, high-achieving people-pleasers who come to me reporting feeling drained, inadequate, short fused, guilty, and often deeply alone. So often my clients are self-conscious about feeling not quite right since from the outside, their lives seem okay. This is the work I love to do; helping you sort through the nuance, putting the pieces together, discovering how you can feel more complete, confident and at peace.

Healing from
trauma
and related depression, anxiety, and complicated grief is possible. We all go through
trauma
and loss in life, and sometimes it can pile up in a way that can cause it to get stuck. This can impact our physical health, how we think and feel about ourselves, and how we engage in relationships and set boundaries with ourselves and others. When folks come to see me, they sense that the life they wish for is within reach, but they aren’t sure how to get there or where to start. Having an experienced guide is useful, and I'd be delighted to walk beside you on this part of your path.

When life has dealt some hard blows, when we feel adrift or our lives are in transition; when we can't seem to get past irritations, annoyances, or injuries in relationships that used to be loving and secure; when sadness, fear, or anxiety are barriers to living the life we want for ourselves and those we love; or when unforeseen
trauma
, divorce, or family conflict adversely affect our children, we may need help in finding ways to get around, through,or over these barriers.

I enjoy joining my clients on their walk towards goals they feel will help them create the life they want to live. We can choose to take any obstacles we might face and examine them with a lens of curiosity, understanding, and compassion. I hold the personal and professional stance that we build resilience through diversity and honoring all parts of ourselves: past, present, and future. This helps to organize our goals and to make room for any potential growth edges that need to smoothened out. I lead with my whole self into meetings and I invite anyone I work with to do the same!

"Making the decision to be vulnerable takes courage. I embrace supporting others with compassion while working collaboratively to create change, mindful that redefining and moving through life can be daunting. Struggling with substance abuse,
trauma
, mood, relationships, or life's adjustments, each individual, couple, and family is treated with kindness and respect. Being defined by life circumstances and changing this worldview is possible with support. Holistically, each one of us is unique and no one truly experiences life like that of another. However, one commonality we all do share is the need to belong and matter. Namaste"

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
