My practice provides outpatient services including: individual, family and play therapy , psychological assessment/testing (limited), and family court referred services such as reunifications and child interviews (I do not typically accept insurance for Court related cases).
UNABLE TO ACCEPT NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME DUE TO SCHEDULING LIMITATIONS. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a focus primarily on child and adolescent treatment. I have been practicing in Nevada since 1998. I previously worked in clinics and internships in the San Diego area while completing my doctorate training. The child population is significantly under served in Nevada and through my practice I hope to provide guidance, support and hope to families that are struggling and in need. My treatment approach encompasses the family as a whole and assesses the needs of all members, not just the identified patient.

I have a high success rate with patients who are diagnosed with grief, post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety and anger issues. I have personal experience and recovery from the effects of trauma. Clients who have anxiety benefit from coping/calming therapy techniques. I am qualified to work with families to reduce conflict, teaching fair fighting, and communication skills. Also, work with people to reduce negative symptoms of Schizophrenia and Bipolar. Christian Therapy is very effective for persons who are spiritual in nature. Children have unusual ways of communicating their feelings, and my focus is to build worth and self-esteem through Play Therapy .

I offer many different evidence-based therapy models ranging from DBT skills building, CBT, post modern styles, to play therapy &art therapy.
Hello! My name is Emily. I am a licensed couple, family and child therapist. I have a lot of toys and games in my office for my kiddo clients so I always get asked if I see adults too. Yes, I see people of all ages! My background is in human development and the ways in which attachment, traumas, and other significant life experiences shape how our automatic nervous systems respond to environmental triggers, brain structure, and behaviors at each different life cycle stage. Anxiety, anger, mood shifts, loneliness, loss, detachment, fear of trust, chronic illness, people with higher sensitivities- these are some of my top areas.

As a systems therapist, I believe we become stuck in patterns that we play out repeatedly, whether these patterns are good for us or not.
As a solution-focused Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, as everyone has different wants, needs, hopes, and person-centered concerns. My goal is to discover where your present life is, including your thoughts, feelings, meaning-making, and interactions. I will help you explore which parts of your life are beneficial and which parts you would like to transition into something more significant.

Likewise, I enjoy and have many years of experience working with children and teens using a play and art therapy approach.
As a marriage and family therapist, I work comfortably with a variety of client populations: adults, couples, children, teens, and families. Having been an educator for twenty-seven years, I bring an informed and unique perspective to my work. Regardless of the age of my clients, all bring a story to therapy. My role is to guide my clients to uncover that story and help them to revise it so that they can live their lives as they choose and connect with others in a wholehearted way.

Some of the tools I use to guide the process are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Grief Therapy, Family Systems, Life Stages, Relational, Somatic Experiencing, Faith Based and Play Therapy .
I love the collaborative and creative work of therapy. I see my role, not only as a trained practitioner of clinical modalities, but also as one of a midwife or gardener. I believe each of us has the wisdom of what we need to heal within us. It is not my job to teach you how to be a better person or to become whole . . . our work in therapy is to help you remember that you are and always have been—whole. Together we compost the trauma of the past and rotate, turn it, and bring it to light so that it can fertilize the soil for growth. I work with children, families, couples, and individuals of all ages.

I have always felt that life was like the ocean waves, a constant of ups and downs, but a lot of beauty. While the ocean is beautiful, such as our lives, there are times when things are not perfect and we need a little help. I am here to encourage you, motivate you, and help you through your most difficult times.

My practice supports authentic living. I hope to join with persons and offer my understanding of where they are. Such genuine contact encourages awareness of possibilities that otherwise remain just out of reach. Relationship is central; foundations of healthy relationships include trust, respect, honesty and risk-taking. Persons I sit with commonly say I am supportive and challenging, non-judgmental and safe. Persons with previous experience in therapy say that our play together is "different" than their other therapy relationships, perhaps because I fundamentally believe persons are good and have inherent power to grow and change.

I provide a comprehensive individual and family intervention plan to address the child's individual needs via play therapy intervention, parent consultation, observation, education as well as training and consultation to day care and school.
In recent years there has been an increase in mental health referrals for young children (3-6 years of age). They are having difficulty in developing emotional and social skills which they need to succeed at home, day care and pre-kinder school. Parents' main complaints are that their child is having frequent "emotional meltdowns", "temper tantrums", "verbal and physical aggression", "defiance", "shutting down", "clinging", "school refusal", and "stop talking". The child has reached an extreme level of emotional distress for him/herself and for others around them. I also provide therapy for adults.

Play Therapy

Who is play therapy for?

Play therapy is generally targeted to children between the ages of 3 and 11 who have social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. Play therapy has also been found helpful for children who have experienced physical or emotional abuse or witnessed atrocities. Play therapy is also often recommended for children who are undergoing major medical procedures or who are suffering from chronic illness; many children’s hospitals are equipped to offer play therapy on-site. Play therapy is also sometimes used for adults; creative writing, music, and art are expressive forms that can all be adapted for therapeutic purposes.

Why do people need play therapy?

Children often do not have the language skills or words to know or to express what is troubling them. Yet they often spontaneously draw or use playthings to depict scenarios that reflect problems in their everyday life. Play therapy provides children with an array of objects and play situations to act out their feelings or experiences so that therapists can get a clear picture of what children might be struggling with and help them find solutions. In addition, play therapists are skilled at helping children understand their inner experience and find words for them, necessary steps toward helping children learn to control their own behavior and come up with solutions to problems they encounter.

What happens in play therapy?

A child enters a comfortable playroom where they are free to choose the objects they want to play with. The play therapist will typically observe how they play with the toys—whether a sandbox, puppets, dolls and action figures, trucks, costumes, drawing and painting materials, or more—because such play provides clues to a child’s family and social relationships, difficulties they are encountering in the world, and what going on inside themselves. Sometimes the therapist may ask the child to use the play objects to tell a story about their family. Using the same instruments of play, therapists can help children discover more advantageous ways of thinking and behaving.

What kinds of problems do play therapists treat?

Play therapy can help children who display destructive or self-destructive impulses; children who seem angry, sad, or fearful; children who experience frequent social, emotional, family, or school difficulty. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, who are regularly exposed to family conflict, or who have been physically or emotionally abused. Play therapy can help children who are perpetrators of bullying as well as those who are targets of bullying. It helps children learn to identify their feelings, to express them in constructive ways, and to regulate them so they can get on with the business of development.

How long does play therapy last?

Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and they usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Each session is tailored to the individual child and the kinds of problems they are struggling with. Play that is highly repetitive often indicates a problem requiring further exploration. Therapists typically measure progress through session-to-session changes in play behavior.
