Therapy can be hard work and it requires a willingness to be honest and open. However, I also believe that therapy should occasionally mix in laughter and fun. Couples, triads, and individuals can come to me to address a variety of issues that may have arisen during the course of their relationship. My life experiences include firsthand knowledge of what works well in a happy marriage but also what missteps can lead to tension and conflict. You don't have to struggle alone. Let me be a source of support and perspective for you.

Life moves fast, and it can be hard to know where to start when you want to feel more grounded. I offer a grounded, conversational approach to therapy that focuses on slowing down, noticing what’s happening inside, and building more presence and self-understanding. Mindfulness is a big part of my work, not as a buzzword, but as a way to connect with yourself in a real and compassionate way.

Can we fix you? You’re not broken. I understand that at times we may very well feel that way. It is most certainly not easy out there, in our heads, in our hearts. The experiences that life can bring, the experiences that we can choose for ourselves. It is in compassionate confidence that I would like to support you wherever you may be. To support you in whatever it is that brings you to this page. Please know, you can feel better! You can feel better, you can think better, you can choose better! Things can change and they do. People can change and they do.

Pain can either define us or serve as the driving force for personal growth. I have dedicated an extensive amount of time to working with children, teens, parents, and adults who struggle with impulse control, existential crises, emotional challenges, and behavioral disturbances. I firmly believe that knowledge alone is insufficient; true change goes beyond conceptualization—it requires action. Clients require proven tools to actively pursue self-sufficiency.

I believe individuals come to therapy with concerns that have become problematic to their lives. However we were raised, along the way, we picked up traits that grew along with us, and manifested themselves in our everyday living; traits, such as abandonment, mistrust, defectiveness, vulnerable to harm/illness, entitlement, unrelenting standards/hypercritical, and dependence. I believe these traits hide in plain sight. Individuals will come to therapy looking to relieve themselves of moments, or situations, only to find these traits, disguised as their concerns. It is up to our work together to find a way to overcome these traits.

Do you carry a deep ache that feels hard to name? Or move through the world with a heaviness you can’t explain? Trauma doesn’t always come with a clear storyline—but its effects are real. It can leave you feeling disconnected, anxious, stuck in shame, or unsure who you are anymore. It can disrupt relationships, sexuality, sleep, and even your sense of time. You may have tried therapy before and wondered if real relief is even possible. I believe it is.

My main focus is to work together with you, no matter where you are at, within your life. Whatever you are struggling with is important to me and you should not have to go through it alone. You may be dealing with anxiety, trauma, depression, or loneliness. The truth is that there is no quick fix for these. However, they are able to be worked through with a therapist that has much experience, in many aspects.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
