With over 20 years of helping professional
women
learn the invaluable skill of setting healthy boundaries in their relationships, life and work – together we will do the deep emotional work of identifying your unique blocks, so you can move toward the life you want.
Perhaps you feel overwhelmed and depleted from being pulled in many directions. You want to say no but find yourself saying yes instead, fearing that family and friends will get angry or be disappointed if you say no. You worry it may jeopardize your relationships if you do. Each time you think about setting a boundary, you feel anxious, or guilty, and sometimes even selfish for considering it. You want to live your own life. However, prioritizing yourself and honoring your own needs seems almost impossible. At times, you feel stuck, unable to know what you want, or focus on your life goals and dreams because you have little energy

As a Black & Latinx
woman
and therapist, I cannot shy away from how systems affect our mental health.
Deciding to come to therapy can be an intimidating decision. It is the first step in a journey of vulnerability, discovery, and self love. Because of the magnitude of this journey it is important to select a therapist that understands your needs and supports your journey. I strive to be authentic and provide a safe environment for clients that acknowledges the vulnerable space you are putting yourself in by initiating therapy. I support clients in cultivating their strengths and acknowledging how the daily ups and downs of life can affect the therapeutic process.

My area of specialty is working with
women
with anxiety and stress-management. I offer a safe, nonjudgmental, and collaborative approach, working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Working together, we will discuss the goals you would like to accomplish in therapy and take the necessary steps to achieve your goals. I typically assign activities between scheduled sessions, that we can discuss during the following session. I have found clients enjoy having resources outside of being in session. I have also found providing telehealth (video) therapy, to be very beneficial for clients.

In my personal life, I have experienced cultural/systemic oppression. I know all too well the impacts it can have on someone's mental health and relationships. I utilize a cultural framework to highlight how oppression impacts the problem and how to cope with the effects. I have worked with
women
of different ethnicities, economic backgrounds, religious beliefs, etc. I work on empowering my
female
clients while highlighting the unique issues being a

can pose. I utilize a feministic framework in my approach to therapy.

have suffered in silence without the help and support they truly needed.
Are you fearful about pregnancy, birth or motherhood? Is this season of motherhood not what you envisioned? Are you struggling to keep it together as a mom? *You are not alone* Maternal Minds Counseling can help. The truth is that 50-80% of
women
experience the baby blues and 1 out of 5 experience a mood or anxiety disturbance in the perinatal period (before or after pregnancy). Sometimes planning, expecting, new or experienced moms need extra support through this transition. The therapists at Maternal Minds treat
women

The human experience is one of feeling. Life can be challenging and we are pushed to do it alone, to be “strong”. I do not believe that you are weak or broken because you are considering therapy. You don't have to be "strong" in the therapy room with me. I believe in collaboration, I show up in the therapy room ready to tackle the problems, pains, and conundrums, with you. My experience and clinical passion include but are definitely not limited to working with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, consensually nonmonogamous couples and individuals, and sex workers. I am a queer
woman
of color that is unwaveringly sex positive and anti-racist.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
