Accepting new clients. Life gives us various hardships and trials. By seeking counseling I can help you navigate life's challenges, while personally growing in mental, emotional, and physical health. My therapeutic style is relaxed while remaining engaged and focused on client progress. While I enjoy working with individuals and couples, I particularly have a passion for working with teens and families. I utilize a family system approach, which encourages sessions with parents and children, alone and together. Most recently, I had the privilege of working for the CC Fire Department, serving the firefighters and their families.

I work with individuals facing anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, codependency, narcissistic abuse recovery, body image concerns, emotional or binge eating, and low self-confidence.
Therapy is a collaborative process of self-discovery and growth. I help clients understand patterns that keep them feeling stuck and develop healthier ways of responding to life’s challenges. Together we work toward greater self-awareness, stronger boundaries, emotional resilience, and practical tools that support lasting change.

I am an engaging and connecting type of therapist who helps you feel like you can talk openly and without reserve. I love getting to know my clients and truly feel honored to be in this helping profession. I want to be your biggest fan and cheerleader and can honestly say I do not judge my clients. I have heard the darkest and worst things and still find that I like my clients and want them to succeed. I have been in private practice for about 12 years but have been a therapist for about 15-16.

Seeing the prevalence of eating disorders while playing competitive volleyball in high school sparked a passion in me for promoting positive body image and healthy relationships with food and exercise.
I studied a variety of issues including the effects of abuse on self-esteem in romantic relationships, vulnerabilities importance in deepening relationships, and the efficacy of Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy for the treatment of eating disorders. I have become familiar with Dialectical Behavior Therapy and enjoy using that in practice.

I specialize in all forms of disordered eating and believe recovery is possible for you.
Can’t stop thinking about food or your body? Maybe you’ve spent years dieting, hoping that one day you’d finally feel comfortable in your own skin but, that day never comes. Instead, food and body worries follow you everywhere, making social events, restaurants, or even getting dressed feel stressful. Over time, life starts to shrink. Therapy can help you break out of this exhausting cycle, quiet the mental noise around food and weight, and build a more peaceful relationship with your body, so you can get back to living your life, not managing it!

I also am a highly trained expert in eating disorders, with limited availability for binge eating cases.
Having trouble sleeping? Feel like you've tried it all... limiting phone use, relaxing, blackout shades... but nothing is working? Problems with eating at night? Difficulty sticking to your CPAP? You're not alone. Up to 70 million Americans each year experience sleep disorders. These problems often make it difficult to do the things that are important to you and can impact your physical and mental health. Major medical organizations are increasingly recognizing that sleep is a "vital sign." I'm here to help you take control over your sleep and eating with evidence-based approaches that prioritize teaching you skills for life.

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
