I work with adults (and teens) facing challenges like navigating ADHD/ASD/AuDHD, Substance Use Disorders, support for families affected by substance abuse, anxiety, depression, burnt out/overwhelmed, relationship struggles, communication/trust, trauma, PTSD, self-esteem/identity and life transitions.
Real change happens when you feel safe, seen, and truly understood. Hi! I'm Chelsea. I believe the most important part of therapy is the relationship between us. When you feel completely comfortable with your therapist, and can show up exactly as you are without feeling judged, that's when trust begins to grow and the real change and healing can follow. I don't believe in "fixing" people. Sometimes we all need someone to walk alongside us as we uncover the strength and wisdom we already have within. My role is to create a safe, welcoming space where you feel supported enough to get through the hard stuff at your own pace.

My experience over the span of my career has included teaching youth about the dangers of tobacco use, advising undergraduate and graduate students about their academic and professional pursuits, counseling both victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, and now offering virtual psychotherapy.
Being seen and valued for who you truly are, particularly in a space free of judgment and bias, is an incredible feeling; when you feel safe to be yourself, peace and healing naturally follow. You deserve to blossom, grow, and thrive! It often takes that feeling of safety and security for the truest parts of ourselves to be free to emerge. The essence of therapy lies in the therapeutic relationship and the sense of safety that comes with it. Knowing that you are in a space where your confidence is kept, your story is protected, and your whole person is viewed with loving kindness allows for growth.

Connection can be one of the most transforming experiences in your life. Counseling is a process that can offer a therapeutic connection to enable you make transformations in your relationships, find healing from trauma, and find relief from depression and anxiety; just to name a few. I have made that kind of connection with many clients who have begun that transforming experience one step at a time. Once you take that first step, you can begin a ripple of change towards success in many areas of your life.

Individuals, Couples, and Families come to therapy with a range of concerns that include or are related to traumatizing major life events, depression, anxiety, anger management, loss, addiction, parenting issues, etc., that have negatively impacted their lives. As a result, they seek a therapist that can provide a safe, supportive place for them to talk about circumstances that are causing distress. Therapy should assist in adding relief for those symptoms. As a professional, I collaborate with clients to overcome these concerns.

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
