I work with adults who feel stuck in the aftermath of unresolved trauma, whether from a single event or a lifetime of difficult experiences. My ideal clients are those who feel like they are "just getting by" but are ready for lasting change. You might experience sudden triggers, persistent anxiety, or a heavy emotional burden that feels impossible to shed. If you want a path to healing that prioritizes your autonomy and doesn't force you to relive every painful detail through retelling, we may be a great fit. I support those seeking a structured, evidence-based approach to reclaiming their present.

Food takes up more space in your life than you want it to. The day gets organized around trying to be “good,” avoid losing control, fix what happened yesterday, or finally get back on track. Restriction feels hopeful until it becomes exhausting. Emotional eating feels relieving until the shame sets in again. There is overthinking before eating, guilt after eating, and a constant mental negotiation happening in between.

Any of these thoughts sound familiar? What if I harm someone? What if I harm myself? What if I act on an urge to do something I really don’t want to do? What if I am a bad person and just fooling everyone? What if I touched something that could contaminate me or my family? What if I want to act on that sexual thought I really didn’t like? What if I go to jail for something I did but forgot or didn't know? What if that thing I did will come back to haunt me? What if I cheat on my partner? What if I am with the 'wrong' partner even though I love my partner? What if my sexual orientation will change even though I don't want it to?

My ideal client is someone who feels stuck—perhaps weighed down by anxiety, depression, trauma, or the stress of major life changes and is ready to find a way forward. They may be navigating difficult relationships, adjusting to new roles, managing the effects of past experiences, or trying to break free from unhealthy patterns. What they want most is to feel balanced, confident, and connected again to rediscover their strengths and live a life that feels meaningful and authentic.

I work with individuals, couples, and families affected by trauma, chronic illness, and/or anxiety. I work from a trauma-informed, whole-body perspective drawing upon approaches such as mindfulness, EMDR, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. If you are reading this, you may feel tired of old patterns you find yourself in and overwhelmed by how to change them, or scared of the uncertainty of change. You are dealing with personal stressors on top of the impact of the pandemic and current events. Managing the discomfort that comes with change is hard, but necessary to move through life in a way that is satisfying and enjoyable.

My person-centered approach, grounded is flexible and responsive to what you, the client, bring to the table, what your goals in therapy are, and what “forks in the road” you are faced with. I have a strong background in dealing with trauma in all forms, from the most severe to the seemingly small but incredibly painful psychological cuts that injure our relationships with our own selves and with others. I rely on creating a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients, one based on honesty, deference to their autonomy, and respect for their privacy.

Do you want to change how you feel on a daily basis? Are there old patterns that are no longer serving you or your relationships with others? Life is full of transitions and situations that can feel overwhelming and difficult to navigate. Often, it can be difficult to find a name for our emotions. I enjoy working with people who are eager to learn more about themselves; yet are struggling to voice their needs and have learned to keep themselves connected by either over-giving, people pleasing or isolating. Together, we can work towards deconstructing internalized messages to help you find your authentic voice.

LGBTQ+ Therapists
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
