I consult men, women who have relationships with them, and couples experiencing a wide variety of concerns: from communication impasses and mismatched sexual desire, to chronic and intense conflict, difficulties with managing extended family, and betrayal of trust. I see both newer and long-term couples where partners feel let down and disappointed in their expectations and struggle to feel excited or even hopeful for their future together. Sometimes couple problems are obvious and specific, and other times there are vague and often unconscious disturbances that are articulated, grasped and mastered with the therapist's help.
You will look at the ways that you've adjusted to each other that leave you disheartened and despairing, and will practice more adaptive strategies of being a couple. I strive to remain neutral, not favoring either partner, as my interest and focus is on the relationship, its dynamics and potential. Short- and long-term counseling is offered.
Men I consult 1-on-1 often wish to understand why they're irritable, unfaithful or isolated; they are successful but bored or they are unfulfilled professionally and personally despite best intentions and hard work. Restlessness, anger, waning motivation and issues of self-respect and what can be done about that are frequent discussions in my practice.
