I primarily work with women who are recovering from trauma—especially relationship wounds, systemic harassment, and sexual trauma. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling disconnected from themselves, stuck in patterns like overthinking, people-pleasing, or difficulty setting boundaries—often after experiences that have impacted their self-trust, voice, or sense of identity. Therapy with me is a space to come back to yourself—at your own pace, in your own way.

Our current expression of self is often shaped by a mixture of our early positive or negative experiences, attachments or lack thereof, biology, and environmental circumstance. As adaptive beings we develop ways of coping, patterns of emotionality, behavior, and strategies of relating to ourselves and other. Sometimes these ways of being are not working anymore.Luckily, there resides in all life a wisdom of self-healing. My role as a counselor is to provide a space for re-discovering and empowering that wisdom. Recent research has discovered that the nervous system can rewire itself through positive relational experience.

I am a Solution Focused Therapist working with individuals and couples. I have been in practice for 28 years. In my Solution Focused approach, a person looks at the issues/areas of life that need to be changed, and what habits, behaviors, actions and choices keep perpetuating these issues in your life or relationships. We look at when these issues are resolved, what will be different? What will you notice now that these issues are no longer on the emotional property of your life? What will others notice? What has stopped you in the past?

My ideal client feels emotionally overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected—from themselves, their relationships, or their sense of direction. They may be navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, or major life transitions, and often fear that something is “wrong” with them. They are tired of overthinking, people-pleasing, or repeating painful patterns and want more than quick fixes. Their goal is to feel grounded, confident, emotionally secure, and able to respond to life with clarity rather than old wounds.

Our minds shape the quality of every moment of our lives. And our minds are not just our thoughts; they include our bodies, relationships, histories, cultures, and imaginations. They hold our past, our work and creativity, as well as our emotions and inner experience. In therapy, we can learn to be in relationship with all of these parts of ourselves—listening and engaging with curiosity, care, and respect. Through this process, what has been fragmented or burdened can begin to integrate, nourishing our life and our connections to others.

Therapy is an organic process that gives support and guidance. Our experiences and beliefs about ourselves and the world create emotional holding patterns of behavior. When we face these with compassion for ourselves, we become freer and more peaceful. Self compassion is a key piece of moving into deeper self connection and self acceptance. If this kind of self intimacy interests you, please contact me to begin.

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
