I think therapy works best when a space of compassion, empathy and warmth is present. When we feel heard, seen and understood, we can find balance and connect to our true selves again. My work is about exploring how trauma and historical patterns impact our self-worth and relationships. My focus is on helping clients to unlearn painful messages received from outside influences to develop more self-compassion, connection and authenticity in their lives. I see my clients as having the answers within themselves. I'm here as a companion on the healing journey to support you in trusting your own clarity and wisdom.

I've helped countless teens and adults leave behind depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and family of origin baggage.
My experience is that we all tend to want the same things - feeling good about ourselves, finding purpose in our lives, and having positive connection with others. I also believe we are our own worst enemies, and that sometimes we need support from outside our normal circles. My ideal client is willing to show up and participate honestly. I appreciate when clients can give me examples of how they're consciously working to have new experiences in their daily lives, actively creating positive change for themselves. My job is to help you learn to help yourself.

My clients have usually done the inner work. Read the books. Tried the systems. Put in the years. They understand themselves well. They know what they should do. And something still gets in the way. I work with adults with ADHD, couples navigating business together, and people coming back from burnout. Smart, capable, self-aware people stuck at the gap between knowing and doing. I help them stop working against themselves and start moving. If you're in crisis or need clinical mental health support, I'm not the right fit — but I'm happy to help you find someone who is.

I love working with those who identify as neurodivergent, on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum of identity and those who have experienced relational and attachment trauma. As a queer and neurodivergent therapist, I honor your lived experience and natural capacity for healing as we explore old patterns that protected your emotional and relational wellbeing in the past, but that you may be ready to change, together and at your pace. Emotions like stress and anxiety are messages from our body that we need more support, and I believe emotional healing is meant to be done in relationship with another.

An Ideal client is a combination of personal qualities, therapeutic needs, and fitting with the therapist's style & approach. Therefore the client is easily motivated to change, is open to self-reflection, actively participates in the therapeutic process, and puts in the effort to make the changes. A client who is ready to partner with the therapist in developing a treatment plan to work towards their goals: such as actively exploring their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, self-discovery, & considering different perspectives. Also this will help the client to have comfort with the therapist who is providing a supportive environment.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
