Please refer to the specialties I treat: PTSD, anxiety, depression, transgender and more.
My PhD in Clinical Psychology has given me the knowledge and sensitivity that psychotherapy is a very personal experience. Together we gain the trust to peel the layers of the "false self" away from the true, authentic self. Each person is different, therefore each person's healing has to be treated individually. Human suffering can be healed and I treat trauma from early childhood to the present, treating unhealthy early attachment issues we may use now in relationships. Together we will examine patterns which the patient finds distressing and long standing. I do not give advise, rather I help the patient find the advise within.

I really enjoy working with teens and young adults. I also work with adults of all ages. Most of my clients are working on resolving sexual orientation questions, gender identity concerns, low self-esteem, self-identity issues, depression, anxiety, and social fears, among other problems. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I have a particular interest in supporting gender non-conforming people and the community as a whole. If I don't feel like the right therapist for you, please see our website for profiles of all of our therapists.

What if I were to tell you that every thought you, or anyone else has is just an opinion? That our thoughts form and develop from the information we might have and which we use to try and make sense of everything in the world with such a limited data set. Life is complicated and messy and there are no set “rules” for how people in the world should work and operate. Often this can lead to uncertainty, judgement, and doubt which often leaves us feeling isolated and alone. My clients are those who are wanting to achieve freedom from compulsions, self-defeating thinking and actions, and limiting beliefs.

I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy, and seek to empower my clients to make personal decisions about their treatment under guidance. My worldview and theoretical approach is rooted in a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and holistic framework and utilizes interventions from methodologies such as Somatic Experiencing, existentialism, and person-centered psychotherapy. I enjoy working with a wide range of demographics and issues, but my ideal client would be someone seeking help with integrating past trauma, a harm reduction approach to substance use, disordered eating, and/or moving through a life transition.

I know that the process of beginning therapy can be overwhelming because I’ve been there. It takes vulnerability and courage to ask for help. I also know that therapy works because I’ve seen it--in my own life and in the lives of my clients. I congratulate you on taking this significant step toward finding relief and reconnecting with your most authentic self. I’m so glad you’re here. My practice is grounded in my belief that the therapeutic relationship provides a unique opportunity to explore experiences and parts of ourselves that are hard to look at alone. We are all capable of healing, growth and transformation at any point.

Often clients need to be seen and heard so that they can process emotions and stress from past trauma or current stressors in which they feel stuck and unable to move forward. You may need support to better understand your life experiences that led you to the present. You need to feel the safe compassionate presence of another to process. I provide warm, relational, supportive client centered therapy and am experienced with anxiety, depression and complex trauma. I have worked with people from diverse ethnic and socio economic backgrounds and integrate an understanding of cultural factors and intergenerational trauma in our work.

As a psychotherapist and Life Coach I am trained in clinical social work as well as in exercise physiology. I understand how the mind, body and emotions are interconnected. When we are physically attuned, we are able to access deeper parts of ourselves. These deeper parts may be limiting due to old beliefs, negative behavior patterns, confusing emotions, and often times a combination of all three. Also, I bring to my clinical practice over 28 years experience in fitness and coaching team sports. Together we can work to set and achieve clear, obtainable life goals.

How can I find a therapist in Santa Fe?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
