I am a licensed psychologist, registered nurse and healer who for over thirty years has successfully blended psychology, spirituality and medical knowledge into my practice with clients.
Many of us struggle with physical illness, emotional pain or relationship problems. Sometimes life looks fine on the outside, but we hunger for something more. That feeling of emptiness can lead to depression, anxiety, addiction, physical illness or other problems that seem overwhelming. But the answers are there, because inside your heart is a wellspring of wisdom and love. By uncovering and clearing the causes of distress, our own inner light can shine through. I offer a safe and nurturing space, along with practical skills to uncover the deep inner peace, health and happiness that are buried in your heart.

I have explored spirituality through meditation practices, sacred plants and nature, addictions through personal experiences and training, trauma through accidents and EMDR training, and practiced Ecopsychology because of a deep need to understand how humans might exist in healthier and more sustainable ways.
As an eclectic psychotherapist, I use many approaches, and have an ability to be deeply present with your experiences. I offer grounded, thoughtful, creative, playful, kind, and compassionate support. My desire is to assist you through challenges and help you find balance and healing. My mirror of reflection is through 15 years work in community mental health, with wide ranging mental health and addiction issues. I've experienced oneness, Christ Consciousness, transpersonal, and non-ordinary states, yet also my own drama and occasional trauma. I am here to help raise awareness, create options, and facilitate you finding your way.

Life transitions, spirituality and career change are also issues that I work with.
I work with individual adults, both men and women. Clients looking for new discoveries about themselves and seeking tools for change are a sampling of client needs that I work with. Clients will achieve greater clarity, as well as self- acceptance in our work together. I believe that we all have our own "inner healer," and I help individuals find this voice of truth inside themselves. Learning to trust this voice empowers clients to make decisions and choices that are right and true for them. Learning to release old behaviors that no longer serve creates healthy self-worth. I am happy to work by telehealth; location is not an issue.

Connect with your sources of creativity and spirituality .
Typically we put our self-care last on the list, only to pay a heavy price later. Can you imagine looking back a year from now and saying, “Wow, that truly doesn’t bother me any more.” Or, “I finally got to the next level.” Or, “I feel more myself now.” I am right here with you, every step of the journey, to help you meet your ultimate goal: Living Your Best Life. My therapeutic approach is direct, supportive, and collaborative. I provide sanctuary, a safe, non-judgmental space where you can spill out your heart and mind and begin to make sense of things. Despite our best efforts to live authentically, we can lose our way while navigating stress, transition, trauma, loss, or conflict – or even just trying to figure out who we are. Many of my clients are exploring gender, sexuality, spirituality , and the impact of past experiences on their current identities. They have had doubts about their worth, perseverance, ability to change outdated patterns or recover from past wounds. They questioned the possibility of connecting with others while caring for their own well-being. They struggled with perfectionism, people pleasing, disconnection, reactivity or a lack of reciprocity.

~ I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS.~ Sometimes we know happiness and peace in life. At other times, life hurts! Whether your pain began with loss, illness, injury, or unwanted thoughts and emotions, I will work with you to build a path from suffering to well being. Over a 35 year period I have offered psychotherapy in private practice, taught psychology in a medical school, served as CEO of a non-profit behavioral health agency. Through these experiences, I have developed a broad set of change tools to offer, drawing from the Mindsight, CBT, trauma focused, attachment and DBT traditions of Western psychotherapy.

I am trained in depth psychology in the Jungian tradition. My Santa Fe practice focuses on the process of rethinking one's life as the second half unfolds, including issues of midlife crisis and approaching retirement or, if already retired, finding and fostering a sense of vitality and fulfillment to this most important, likely quite lengthy, and absolutely unique stage in the life cycle. I believe the second half of life presents challenges and opportunities that are quite different from those we face in the first half. This is even more true of retirement as our expected lifespan lengthens.

Symptoms that bring people into therapy can be the result of an overwhelmed nervous system. It can happen suddenly or overtime when we live through something that occurs too fast or lasts too long (sickness, motor vehicle accidents, violence, loss and grief, or medical procedure trauma.)

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
