Therapy techniques are specific to your needs and can include cognitive, imagery and somatic approaches.
You are enough. At times we don’t feel that we are good enough, smart enough, lovable, because of situations we have been through or challenges we have. My passion is connecting with people and helping them to connect with themselves and others. I believe those connections are healing and help us to be our best selves. We all deserve the freedom to be ourselves and to have nonjudgmental support.

Somatic Experiencing, IFS and Tension/Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) are three somatic modalities I have extensive experience providing.
Talk therapy can be helpful, but sometimes it's just not enough. Maladaptive patterns of stress, trauma, anxiety, and depression lie in our bodies. You and I will untangle these problematic patterns to get to the root of your pain together. Our sessions will allow you to metaphorically dip your toe into the pain and then always come back to safety. In this way you are challenged to grow in a slow, safe manner.

Combining creative modalities, somatic and mind-body approaches help treat and resolve the fight-flight-freeze/fear cycles in the present moment, and move toward resiliency, self- regulation and co-regulation.
Symptoms that bring people into therapy can be the result of an overwhelmed nervous system. It can happen suddenly or overtime when we live through something that occurs too fast or lasts too long (sickness, motor vehicle accidents, violence, loss and grief, or medical procedure trauma.)

I have participated and trained in a rich variety of somatic , therapeutic and spiritual modalities, and can comfortably accompany you into different realms of exploration.
The current global crisis is stressful. For many of us it may be reactivating old layers of unresolved trauma, that shows up as chronic anxiety, dread, helplessness, relationship challenges, shame, or a shutting down to life and love, fueling unhealthy coping strategies. I believe we all have an innate capacity to heal from adversity. I support you to turn towards your symptoms with openness and curiosity so they can become a doorway to greater healing, growth and new possibility. I hope to empower and inspire you to heal and grow from past trauma. "There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in"( L. Cohen)

I utilize cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), mindfulness, somatic practices and AEDP which is a relational and attachment based approach.
Do you feel stuck in patterns of behaviors that are self defeating? Do you feel like the color has gone out of your life? Are you longing for meaningful relationships but can't seem to create them? With every issue we confront, there's a tremendous opportunity for feeling revitalized. But to do this we must feel metaphorically held by another. That's where therapy comes in.

Cultivating joy, self-worth and safety is an inherent right for all people. Navigating our life’s journey can present us with challenges. By strengthening our own agency, internal and external resources it can allow us to create a life that is thriving. My work with you is rooted in neuroscience and play. I work from a feminist, trauma informed approach. Incorporating experiential modalities to work with the body on a somatic level. The body is what holds on to the trauma/past experiences. Together we can explore your own body’s wisdom allowing for a deeper connection with self.

I use expressive therapy, action methods, Jungian dreamwork and somatic processing to effectively work with depression, anxiety, loss and grief in life transitions and to foster personal growth.
Coming to therapy is an act of self-love. Being curious about what makes us feel and act the way we do is the most rewarding endeavor, bringing authenticity, creativity and choices into our lives. Our self-concept and beliefs about the world were formed in infancy and learned in our primary relationships. Unconsciously, these early experiences guide many of our actions in present time. I am passionate about exploring with you old patterns that do not serve you anymore. I support you in cultivating conscious and self-caring responses to the inevitable challenging and painful events of life.

My approach blends interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, family systems, growth-oriented psychology, and somatic mindfulness.
We have a lot in common. As human beings, our nature is to be resilient, harmonious, and wholehearted. Presence and positive resonance are fundamental to our wellbeing. We want the freedom to define ourselves on our own terms, and we also need to sense our belonging to the world around us. We live in an era when antiquated paradigms are giving way to new possibilities. As humanity grapples with its place among the family of things, more equitable, sustainable, and intraconnected models for healing are emerging.

To this end, I may incorporate nature-based healing methods, somatic techniques, energy and sound healing into our work together to facilitate deeper healing.
There is no road map for understanding the complexity of the human heart and mind. Many of us never received the tools and the guidance we need to live meaningful, authentic lives. Past wounding and traumatic experiences can lead to negative internalized beliefs and behavior patterns which compound and create disconnection and inner struggle. We are not meant to heal or cope with life’s challenges in isolation. I am here to help you unravel the mystery and depth of who you are, to clear old patterns and beliefs that are no longer serving you, and to guide you on the journey of reconnecting with your wholeness and your truth.

There are mind/body techniques such as Somatic Experiencing to treat this kind of trauma.
I have been in practice in New Mexico for 21 years, treating depression, anxiety, relationships, and life changes. I am continuing to do video and telephonic sessions for individuals. I like to use a listening, supportive stance with clients to help them feel comfortable in talking about their problems. Some of the techniques I use are mindfulness, regulating emotions, relationship skills, tolerating distress, and mind/body techniques. I believe that therapy works, and is worth the time, effort, and money you put into it.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
