PRACTICE CURRENTLY FULL-NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS Through their sessions with me, people create profound change in their lives and earn new self-perspective. Together, we work as a team to wade through the depths of trauma, grief, mood issues, confusions and conflicts in their lives. People who work with me learn how to step off the merry-go-round in their minds/hearts. They learn how to identify and speak about what carry and wrestle. Skills are developed to create the lives they have craved. Strengths are brought forth and utilized. Clarity and satisfaction is created. Working together, we can help create this for you too!

I value working with teens and adults in a supportive non-judgmental way. I assist people who may be challenged with shame, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, substance use issues/recovery, communication issues, parent/child relationship difficulties, trauma, lack of self-care, and low self-esteem. Often people are struggling with something in their lives that is out of balance or going through a transition and reinventing themselves. Basically, I help people find their way again. I am a LGBTQ+ affirming, and gender-affirming therapist. I am also a culturally responsive and social justice-oriented therapist.

You don’t understand why you feel this way. You’ve worked so hard to get here but it feels different from what you had hoped for. On the surface things are going well but you still feel dissatisfied, empty, distant, and disconnected. There is a side of you that stays hidden from us and it is so exhausting for you to keep it that way. You feel like connecting and understanding will help you through this but another part of you is terrified of getting what you want. You’ve tried other therapists and perhaps medication, too; things feel a bit better for a little while, but you always come back to this. You want deeper, lasting change.

My work is fundamentally about helping you resolve issues, improve your relationships, accept and appreciate yourself, and cultivate balance and fulfillment. My approach is broad and inclusive. I have specific training in humanistic therapy, relationship counseling and depth psychology, and can employ techniques from all of these disciplines. However, more important than any technique is what arises in the present moment interaction between you and me. I meet you where you are and listen deeply to your narrative, needs and desires. We collaboratively craft an intention for our work, including what modalities may be most helpful.

You are not alone in experiencing times when you need extra support - ideally from someone who makes you feel safe, accepted, understood, and warmly cared about, as well as someone skilled in their craft. My clients experience me in this way. I am passionate about working with people who are dealing with a wide range of issues, including relationship difficulties, grief and loss, major transitions, depression, anxiety, addiction, co-dependence, and trauma. Research shows that no one therapeutic approach is more effective than another – rather, the relationship between client and therapist has the greatest impact on healing.

I am a prescribing psychologist providing medication management and diagnostic assistance to adults in Santa Fe. I treat a wide variety of disorders, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, to psychotic disorders. When prescribing, I combine my expertise as a mental health diagnostician and psychologist with my extensive understanding of psychiatric medications and how they work. I am a "depth prescriber," and in some ways may approach treatment from a paradoxical position. I treat psychiatric symptoms to remission with medications, using the best of what the medical model has to offer in the process.

I specialize in working with adults and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, and life transitions. You may be struggling to find a sense of balance or hope, navigating life transition or divorce. You may be experiencing self-judgment, low self-worth, and shame. I view these struggles as normal responses to issues you are experiencing, and an opportunity for deeper growth. When you feel seen and heard in therapy, deep healing is possible.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
