As a Marriage and Family Therapist it provides me a unique perspective on people and their issues.
The Family Connection is a safe, inviting place that helps people to address their own concerns and grow to be the person that they want to be. That person has always been there but is often hidden behind pain and negative self thoughts. I enjoy helping people find what decisions and behaviors have led them to this place of pain and how to make different decisions within their own life, to become more empowered to be the person they have always desired to be.

I am credentialed by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, was a clinical member of the Association of Marriage Therapists and worked as an R.
Each client is unique with his or her own needs and goals. It is critical to understand what each client wants and why, before a therapeutic relationship can be established and therapy move forward. Initial sessions explore goals, time frames, and needs, as well as determine if the therapist and client are a good fit. Therapy may be short or long term.

I trained extensively as a child, marital and family therapist at the Menninger Foundation and at the Ackerman Institute for Family Therapy.
I have worked as a psychotherapist in Santa Fe for over 30 years. I see people of all ages with all sorts of concerns. Many people seek help to understand their particular narrative and want to explore and change the repetitive patterns that have caused them to suffer from depression, anxiety or an inability to engage in satisfying, healthy relationships. I am committed to using my skills and expertise to help restore aliveness in those who feel stuck. I do play therapy with children and draw from an eclectic skill set in my work with adolescents, individuals, couples and families.

I treat couples at all stages of relationship, from pre- marital (or pre-commitment), to active parenting, to mature and "empty nest"; any couple wanting to reset their relationship.
Are you worried about your future together? Fighting too much, too often, too intensely? Or the opposite: avoiding conflict for fear of getting lost in it. Conflicts that are avoided or are too long and too intense and too difficult to recover from will all weigh you down. You know that things can be easier: you know you could communicate more efficiently, smarter, and get to have fun together on the other side this. What you need then is a therapist who can diagnose communicational difficulties and engineer solutions that keep you out of the same trouble in the future.

I specialize in trauma-focused adult therapy issues ranging from marriage /couples therapy, anxiety, depression, abuse, family conflict, the addiction cycle (I do not work with active substance abuse) and PTSD.
I enjoy working with adults from varied backgrounds. It's my goal to assist my clients while they're working toward a healthier, happier life. I work with my clients to find a mindful approach through the acceptance of patterns of thoughts and/or beliefs. I feel it's important to provide support while trying to answer life's big questions. A person's thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes can directly affect their feelings and behaviors whether that be a result of learned responses or a trauma response. Whatever the case, I'm happy you've decided to call!

Besides PTSD, my specialties include childhood abuse, including sexual abuse, depression, burnout, anxiety and marriage and couple’s issues.
NO current availability for new clients at this time... My style is warm and compassionate.  I believe that people can only heal when they feel safe and supported, seen and heard.  I have a holistic approach that honors the mind/body connection and my advanced training in trauma allows me to provide treatment that goes beyond traditional talk therapy to create deep and lasting healing.

I work with individuals and couples and am licensed as both a Marriage & Family Therapist and a Professional Clinical Counselor.
Maybe this is your first time seeking therapy, or perhaps you’ve tried before to find a therapist by whom you feel truly heard and seen. Psychotherapy seeks to resolve the conflicts that cause us to be at war with ourselves. It brings about sustainable and lasting change by breaking harmful cycles so that we can achieve a sense of wholeness, freedom, and well-being.

I am the father of four young adults and have been through marriage , divorce, and am in a beautiful remarriage.
I work well with clients (as couples, or individuals) who sense that their relationships could be much better. I can help you achieve clarity about your relationship's potential, provide a roadmap, and encouragement, for you to realize it. I help people who don't want to lose themselves in relationships, but -- rather -- find their best selves there. I approach my clients with the same kindness and compassion I would want if the situation were reversed. I also work with people who are going through, or have gone through, divorce, via weekend After Divorce workshops (Zoom based). I'm licensed in NY, MA, PA, NJ and NM.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
