I have worked extensively with individuals and groups in the field of grief and loss .
I work extremely well with clients who are motivated to change their lives. Often, our greatest challenges come during times of major life transitions. Through active listening and genuine empathy, I help my clients focus upon the inherent solutions to their most pressing problems. Motivation to change comes with the willingness to look closely and investigate the stories we tell ourselves. Often, I discover with my clients that their oldest and most damaging internal stories are simply not true. By having a fellow human who is open and fully present witness our lives, we can discover the very real possibility for greater health and happiness.

For each of us, life is not without change, loss , transition, even trauma, and the emotional difficulties that result. And we heal and transform by way of supportive connection, internally, environmentally, and relationally. I am inspired by the subtle ways in which providing a safe, compassionate and nonjudgmental space allows for a client’s inner wisdom, insights, and empowerment to emerge and for life’s transitions to be eased. I work to provide a sanctuary to process, be witnessed in, and build helpful skills for dealing with loss & grief , transition, emotional distress such as anxiety and depression, and trauma.

My office is a safe place to talk about difficult things with no judgement, no matter who you are. Loneliness, worry, grief , loss , alcohol/drug misuse, and sadness are very common feelings and experiences. We all attempt to find relief from such pain and sometimes the relief is helpful but not necessarily healthy. I collaboratively work with people, including professionals in the helping field, to experience their discomfort with far more ease by using sound therapeutic modalities and coping skills. Along the way I will also help you realize that you are far more resourceful and capable than you may currently believe.

I specialize in grief , loss , trauma, and addiction work, with the understanding that our past and current difficulties, conditioning, and habit/behavior patterns will continue to inform how we act until we are able to acknowledge and heal or release them.
Exploration and resolution of issues and challenges is a part of the call to therapy. Each of us has a spark—that inherent worth which makes us unique and valuable. Discovering or re-discovering our spark can be one of the most exciting journeys we ever take. Spark can also mean our life purpose, direction, or how we want to live in the world. We seek to uncover this spark because we know, deep down, that there is more, a lot more, than what we experience in our day to day lives. My calling is facilitating others in re-igniting their spark. My approach is simple, grounded in the awareness of your pre-existing awesomeness.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
