I enjoy work with adolescents, adults and seniors .
I essentially work in partnership with clients’ and together identify your goals for therapy. Most importantly, we will identify your strengths; explore what is working well and establish what you want to be different in your life. We will cultivate a plan to accomplish the goals that you set forth for positive change. I define my principal approach to counseling as Client-centered, Narrative (Talk) Therapy, while I also enjoy the practical nature of Brief, Solution-Focused Therapy.

Are you seeking balance? I offer services of traditional psychotherapy and Japanese reiki, offering options in how you meet your wellness goals. Psychotherapy is an effective tool that people use to improve mental health, based on relationship building, dialogue, and behavior change. Usui reiki is a practice of reducing the impact of stress on the energy within the body. When disrupted, it causes diminished function in the organs and tissues of the physical body. Reiki assists this energy flow through the chakras, nourishing the organs and cells for vital function and health.

Sometimes we find ourselves closed off, disconnected, in a state of hurt and protection, confused or being overly critical of ourselves. This can affect our lives in many ways; as lack of self-confidence, blame, isolation, unhealthy relationships, anger, resignation or addictions. I want to help you develop the tools and find your inner resources to have peace in your life and heal past hurt. Healing can happen when we find safety within ourselves and with another person. This is what counseling provides and what I offer you: a safe non judgmental space to be yourself freely.

Relationships shape us. The experience of being seen, accepted, and understood by another is a basic human need that when not met can lead to feelings of isolation, loneliness, and other painful emotions. Transformation and healing happen in the moment and in the context of relationships. My approach is open, compassionate, non-pathologizing, relational, & somatic. Rooted in mindfulness, IPNB, & the body/mind connection, our work will also be infused with a healthy dose of humor when appropriate. I support people seeking to heal intergenerational trauma and to build authentic connections with themselves and with loved ones.

Suppose previous therapies left you disappointed by a lack of depth. You might be a more complex person for whom quick-fix approaches aren't enough. I recognize that past influences present and strive to help you resolve your immediate problems, as well as avoid repeating unhealthy patterns that undermine your ability to live a more satisfying and fulfilling life. As a result, psychotherapy often becomes a process of growth and discovery that enables you to live with ease and joy, ultimately leading to a greater sense of inner peace and freedom.

~ I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS.~ Sometimes we know happiness and peace in life. At other times, life hurts! Whether your pain began with loss, illness, injury, or unwanted thoughts and emotions, I will work with you to build a path from suffering to well being. Over a 35 year period I have offered psychotherapy in private practice, taught psychology in a medical school, served as CEO of a non-profit behavioral health agency. Through these experiences, I have developed a broad set of change tools to offer, drawing from the Mindsight, CBT, trauma focused, attachment and DBT traditions of Western psychotherapy.

Do you experience symptoms of emotional, relational, or physical pain, confusion, and loss? Anxiety, fear, hopelessness, and bodily discomfort can linger long after traumatic and destabilizing events. You can learn to navigate these symptoms, regulate them, and walk through the process of fear and immobility back to integrative functioning. My priority is to help you recognize, accept, heal, and integrate the difficulties you are experiencing and become aware of your inner strengths and guiding values through the process. You can find the strength and courage to engage again with life and the passion to not only survive but thrive.

The most important aspect of my work - and its deepest expression - lies in listening. My job is to "hear" you - to listen for what is being said and what is not, for who and what are in the room, for who and what are absent. What part or parts of you have a voice? What part or parts have been silenced? This deep listening process will lead us to those specific therapeutic modalities most appropriate for your growth and well being - what will best serve you at this stage in your life's journey. I also remain aware of any previous or early wounding that may be preventing you from moving forward or living a more fulfilling life.

As a seasoned practitioner and a Training Candidate at the C.G. Jung Institute in Colorado, I love working with clients who want to explore and make needed changes in the behavioral patterns that are no longer serving them in their lives and relationships. Together we can create an environment that safely holds the space for deep self exploration of defended wounds that are often manifested as addictions, anxiety, fear, depression and dissociative reactions; while working toward self-acceptance, non-judgement and the transpersonal retrieval of mind, body and soul.

I believe in the desire and ability of each of us to grow and to become our best selves. More than ability, really - this is our propensity, our basic nature. I remember as a high school student learning about tropism, about how plants turn toward the sun. I was fascinated with that, and still am. But life intrudes. We're told we can't do that, we are not this way. There may have been trauma. We forget what our truth is. There are the challenges of any life: how to navigate love and loss, the big existential issues of loss and grief; the ultimate reality of death. The everyday losses, letting go of attachments; the need,

How can I find a therapist in Santa Fe?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
