The current global crisis is stressful. For many of us it may be reactivating old layers of unresolved trauma, that shows up as chronic anxiety, dread, helplessness, relationship challenges, shame, or a shutting down to life and love, fueling unhealthy coping strategies. I believe we all have an innate capacity to heal from adversity. I support you to turn towards your symptoms with openness and curiosity so they can become a doorway to greater healing, growth and new possibility. I hope to empower and inspire you to heal and grow from past trauma. "There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in"( L. Cohen)

Your innate self-healing ability and our therapeutic relationship form the basis of our work together.
Coming to therapy is an act of self-love. Being curious about what makes us feel and act the way we do is the most rewarding endeavor, bringing authenticity, creativity and choices into our lives. Our self-concept and beliefs about the world were formed in infancy and learned in our primary relationships. Unconsciously, these early experiences guide many of our actions in present time. I am passionate about exploring with you old patterns that do not serve you anymore. I support you in cultivating conscious and self-caring responses to the inevitable challenging and painful events of life.

I enjoy working and developing a therapeutic relationship with people that are struggling in their life whether it's with depression, anger, trauma, anxiety, relationships or even a sense that something needs to change. It's within that struggle that the spark of hope resides and I see it as my job to help people focus on their future, their strengths and successes and then begin to rediscover the hope and power to begin to shape their future and their lives.

With the therapeutic relationship at the heart of counseling, I will support you in finding new ways of knowing and understanding yourself and in creating a hopeful and self-affirming way of living.
Sometimes life events and experiences interfere with our ability to make sense of the world and find our place in it. We may lose our sense of safety and control and become flooded with overwhelming thoughts and emotions, especially now during these drastic societal changes. Whether you’re feeling isolated, lonely, frustrated, fearful or confused, it is possible to emerge courageous and hopeful.

Life is incredible and beautiful. Everyone experiences challenges and disappointments along the way. In response, anxiety, depression, and stress can sometimes become struggles that feel insurmountable. Maybe as a result of the loss of a job, having a tough time in a relationship , coping with online schooling and having to work full time. The grief we experience having lost a loved one. Therapy can offer a key to a different perspective and a new beginning. Together we can work to unravel the disturbing issues present in your life and discover a more joyful journey.

Though I employ a variety of evidence-based methods, an enlivened and respectful therapeutic relationship with my clients remains at the heart of my work.
Do you desire to live more joyfully and to have better relationships? Are you suffering with depression, anxiety or unhealthy habits that interfere with your motivation and ability to act decisively, respond creatively and connect more authentically with others? If so, you are experiencing one of the great challenges of our time and you are not alone. Changes in career, health and relationships often force us to examine and confront aspects of ourselves that no longer serve us in order to grow and move forward. This can be challenging work and it is often helpful to have an ally.

Harville Hendrix said, "We are born in relationship , we are wounded in relationship , and we can be healed in relationship .
Relationships are a constant in our lives, and the relationship with oneself is central to them all. Often, it is relationship stress that leads people to therapy. I frequently work with those with a history of trauma, family conflict, marital discord, parenting challenges, work related stress, or misuse of substances. If you are interested in creating more fulfilling relationships, I'd welcome the opportunity to support you.

The type of clients who seek my support are individuals & couples who are deeply committed to their own relationship with themselves, that then informs how they relate to their partners. I practice through a lens of deep compassion, curiosity, warmth, and radical reverence for grief-work and what grief is attempting to show us in life. Clients that value the "darkness" that can sometimes land in our lives (whether we are in partnership or not) are Life's opportunities, gifts, and medicine, that if we so choose to take, can lead us to more emotional freedom, love and ease in our primary relationships.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
