I typically work with clients facing the physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual impacts of aging, caregiving, chronic pain, end of life, grief, childhood trauma and personal growth.
There are many strong influences in my work over the years, including Transpersonal Psychology, Western Sufi Mysticism, Philip Shepherd's 'The Embodied Present Process’, Thomas Hubl’s work with trauma, and my extensive experience as a death doula, tending to end-of-life challenges and the dying process.

I appreciate how difficult the process of choosing a therapist can be. When we are feeling hurt, overwhelmed, and vulnerable finding the right "fit" for therapy is essential. I believe that therapy is a powerful opportunity to exam what is, or is not, working in our lives. We all have the capacity to meet the challenges and struggles life will inevitably bring, but sometimes we need assistance to see what the next right steps are for us to move forward. If you are seeking a compassionate listener who will non-judgmentally assist you in making sense of life, I am the therapist you are looking for.

Chaos is merely order waiting to be deciphered, wrote the late, great writer José Saramago. In my practice, I work in communion with my clients to assist in interpreting their own personal chaos. The desire to be heard and understood is a fundamental need, one that can lead to better self-understanding, paving the path toward positive change. My goal as a licensed therapist is to offer a safe, non-judgmental space for my client to express the most troubling aspects of their daily life.

Within a warm, down-to-earth, focused therapeutic environment, I work from a contemporary psychoanalytic and Jungian perspective, with an emphasis on the transformative potential of the therapeutic relationship. Together, we may explore recurring patterns, emotional impasses, bodily experiences, and the underlying forces that contribute to feelings of disappointment, loss, frustration or anxiety. My practice often focuses on life transitions, grief, loss, anxiety, and depression, with particular interest in the treatment of traumatic and dissociative states, personality organization, and processes of psychic maturation and growth.

I am neurodivergent, live with chronic illness, and support those w/ similar experiences.
My approach is warm and present. I trust in your judgment in the therapeutic process, and view each individual as the expert in their own life. I’ve worked in the mental health field in Northern New Mexican communities for a decade. My approach is trauma informed, strengths based, and includes EMDR, family systems therapy, somatic mindfulness, narrative therapy, and techniques from Gabor Mate’s Compassionate Inquiry approach. I use humor when it fits. I believe our relationships with nature, community, spirituality, and creativity can be primary parts of the healing process.

I believe therapy is a place where you can show up just as you are — to be seen, heard, and understood. When you feel safe enough to explore even the darker or more difficult places within, real change can happen. Many people seek therapy during times of transition or when they feel a deeper calling for growth and healing. Therapy offers a supportive space to slow down, breathe, and share your story without judgment. It’s a chance to uncover patterns that may no longer serve you and discover new ways to move forward with greater ease.

How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
