If your needing support at this time, either with a
child
, your family, your partner or yourself, I'm happy to talk with you to discuss options for counseling.
My work with individuals and families is grounded in helping to support the ever-changing process of growing, learning and finding a meaningful place within a family and the larger community. The challenges we face in an accelerated global culture seem extraordinarily complex for many of us who can often find ourselves overwhelmed with the demands of a non-stop, technology-driven lifestyle with unrealistic expectations. Slowing down long enough to to give needed attention to our priorities and goals can be difficult, but I'm confident that with some reflection and support we can find grounding and clarity as a path towards wellness.

I am passionate about the
children
and families of New Mexico. Parenting can be very challenging and sometimes as parents we need extra support to gain communication, parenting and self-regulation skills. I have experience working with
children
and families suffering from depression, anxiety, family conflicts, ADHD, and behavioral problems. Also, being a Native New Mexican, I incorporate a cultural awareness and sensitivity in my practice. I recognize and appreciate New Mexican culture as unique and valued along with having it's own struggles and obstacles.

Having the desire to provide yourself or your
child
with the skills necessary to navigate through challenging life circumstances is the first step to a fulfilling life.
Everyone needs an understanding environment where they can express their truth. Issues such as grief, anxiety, substance use, and family conflict can cause mental and emotional distress to arise. Having a calm, nurturing environment to express emotions can foster a better relationship with oneself, which could lead to improved self-understanding, mood, self-esteem, and confidence.

Healing begins through relationship. Our work together will first be to build a safe and trusting relationship to engage in a deeper process of transformation. All of our experiences, prenatally to the present, have led us to who we are today. Sometimes, we need help figuring out where we’re stuck, what’s getting in the way and how to find our way forward. This can be tricky to navigate by ourselves. Through open and honest exploration of your unique experiences, I will guide you in slowing down while finding a deeper sense of self-awareness and healthier ways to move forward.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
