Sometimes we find ourselves closed off, disconnected, in a state of hurt and protection, confused or being overly critical of ourselves. This can affect our lives in many ways; as lack of self-confidence, blame, isolation, unhealthy relationships, anger , resignation or addictions. I want to help you develop the tools and find your inner resources to have peace in your life and heal past hurt. Healing can happen when we find safety within ourselves and with another person. This is what counseling provides and what I offer you: a safe non judgmental space to be yourself freely.

Have you ever wondered why it seems you always get the same results in relationship? Since there are many forms of relating, it's likely you find common threads in most of those. We live in a culture that promotes codependency and fails to support us on a path of personal empowerment. This colors not only our perception of others, but also of ourselves. Feelings of sadness, grief and anger arise, and are difficult to calm. With focus on intention, coaching toward better boundaries, and clearer communication, it's possible to find more joy and harmony in life.

Many times in our lives we are driven by pain from past events. Much of my experience has been working alongside those who are faced with issues of anger , general and acute stress, PTSD, anxiety, and depression; both youth and adults. I have a deep understanding of the nuances of trauma, generational trauma and the disconnect it can cause. I believe therapy to be a journey where I assist you in reconnecting you with yourself and the world around you. I work with you collaboratively to help you make the changes you want to make in your life.

This work validates your current situation—whether it’s a feeling of being stuck, anger , sadness, a reluctance to let-go, or a desire for “more.
I start from the idea that we are all spiritual beings having a human experience and it’s this humanness that presents us with both unlimited abundance and challenges. Life can be complex and full at any age and most everyone is confronting an element of transition or change daily. Change, as we have all heard at one time or another, is the only constant in life. I believe we are motivated to change and evolve in life, that the Universe is nudging us to live more fully, with greater presence and gratitude. While the process of growth may not be necessarily simple, it is attainable to all of us.

It's within that struggle that the spark of hope resides and I see it as my job to help people focus on their future, their strengths and successes and then begin to rediscover the hope and power to begin to shape their future and their lives.

I specialize in working with adults who are survivors of childhood abuse or neglect, especially when it shows up in anger issues, low-self esteem, disordered eating, or relationship conflict. I am experienced working with adults who have largely overcome childhood abuse and neglect to create a successful life, but who find that on a deeper level, that wounding is still in need of healing. The emotional aspects of childhood abuse and neglect show up in our most important relationships, creating frustrating blocks to healthy intimacy and resilient self-esteem.

I work extremely well with clients who are motivated to change their lives. Often, our greatest challenges come during times of major life transitions. Through active listening and genuine empathy, I help my clients focus upon the inherent solutions to their most pressing problems. Motivation to change comes with the willingness to look closely and investigate the stories we tell ourselves. Often, I discover with my clients that their oldest and most damaging internal stories are simply not true. By having a fellow human who is open and fully present witness our lives, we can discover the very real possibility for greater health and happiness.

My orientation is to work with both individuals and couples in a manner that considers our relatedness to life. With individuals struggling with anxiety, depression or work/life stress, I will take into account the relational factors contributing to the issues which may include environments, people, culture, expectations and roles. With couples, I consider the relational dynamics between each other, as we address ways to navigate distressing situations.

Exploration and resolution of issues and challenges is a part of the call to therapy. Each of us has a spark—that inherent worth which makes us unique and valuable. Discovering or re-discovering our spark can be one of the most exciting journeys we ever take. Spark can also mean our life purpose, direction, or how we want to live in the world. We seek to uncover this spark because we know, deep down, that there is more, a lot more, than what we experience in our day to day lives. My calling is facilitating others in re-igniting their spark. My approach is simple, grounded in the awareness of your pre-existing awesomeness.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
