I commonly see people with concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, and grief. In session, we will look at what you are hoping to get from the counseling experience and collaboratively discover what will work for your situation, which may involve getting unstuck from emotional and/or behavioral issues. My orientation includes considering our relationships to life. We will take into account relational factors, which may include environments, people, culture, expectations and roles. The therapy process may assist you in gaining a deeper understanding of your values and skills, toward transformative change.

I help you to see your symptoms as a meaningful response to concerns that you have about your life and yourself. I help you become aware of what is keeping you from living the way you want to live. I help you to get clear about what you want in the way of love, work (expressing yourself) and enjoyment of life and to use your thoughts, feelings, intentions, talents and strengths to get on a path towards satisfying those desires. I help people heal from trauma. I don't believe drugs are good treatment and will help you withdraw from them.

Hi! While it is necessary to introduce myself according to my education, experience, licensing, and specializations it is more important to let you know that I am a human first. I live life just like you and experience parenting pitfalls, marriage challenges, financial quandaries, and all of the other stuff that life is made of. My role in your life isn’t to tell you what to do or how to do it, it is to use the clinical skills I’ve learned, wisdom I’ve gained, and my clinical experience to help you navigate and heal from the “stuff” in your life.

Hope for Healing provides just that. It is important to start with giving hope when it may be lost, and provide hope as a starting point for the healing process. We believe hope is the catalyst for the healing that will come, and is a must to achieve success.

I believe meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship. When you feel heard and supported, it becomes easier to explore challenges, build insight, and move toward the life you want.

I work with adults in recovery, high achievers, and family black sheep—people who often look fine on paper but know that’s not the whole story. If you’ve had to shrink yourself to survive a program, a job, or a relationship, you deserve a place where honesty doesn’t cost you.

The uncertainty of healing from within can be challenging due to feeling stuck triggered by fear and loss of control. Struggling with the stressors of life often leads to anxiety, depression, grief, and addiction. With compassion and empathy, vulnerability can be empowering when you feel safe and secure enough to regulate negative thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Collaborating together to prioritize your genuine mental and emotional needs is the main approach in which to foster personal growth.

Someone who is ready for change, even if they don’t yet believe they’re capable of it. They may arrive in services feeling defeated, stuck, or overwhelmed. Many have faced significant trauma or instability: long-term substance use, incarceration, homelessness, family dysfunction, or mental health crises. They may be dealing with co-occurring disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addiction. I often work with individuals who are navigating legal systems, child custody concerns, housing insecurity, or who have cycled through treatment before but never felt truly understood or supported.

Before becoming a therapist, I served in the U.S. Army and later taught English overseas in South Korea and China. I also spent many years working as a social worker with the Department of Veterans Affairs, helping veterans navigate challenges including mental health concerns, homelessness, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. These experiences taught me that people are often more resilient than they realize. They also taught me that meaningful change rarely comes from advice alone—it comes from understanding yourself, developing practical skills, and taking consistent action.

As a therapist my driving passions are to help people overcome trauma, de-stigmatize mental health, and advocate for counseling, not just as a means of addressing mental illness but as a tool for self-exploration, healing, and growth. I know that therapy, or any commitment to change for that matter, can be scary and uncomfortable at times but I provide a calming space and an empathetic and unconditionally caring partner in your journey of self-discovery, healing, and growth. I truly believe that counseling can be a means to a better, more satisfying and comfortable life for everyone.

My primary goal is to help my clients craft a new narrative, one that is filled with hope and optimism for their future. I believe in creating a supportive environment that fosters growth and confidence, where my clients feel safe, supported, validated, and respected throughout their therapeutic journey. This focus in therapy enables my clients to identify patterns in their thoughts and feelings, building insight into their choices in behaviors and relationships. While we cannot change our past, we can change how we perceive it, gaining valuable insights into ourselves, achieving our goals, and reinforcing our core values.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
