I work with individuals, couples and families who may be struggling with something that they need to change, or who just need to engage in thinking differently about a problem. I am not here to judge anyone, I practice from the perspective that we all deal with things the best that we can, and when we learn better strategies, we do better. Let me help you to learn better strategies.

I help you to see your symptoms as a meaningful response to concerns that you have about your life and yourself. I help you become aware of what is keeping you from living the way you want to live. I help you to get clear about what you want in the way of love, work (expressing yourself) and enjoyment of life and to use your thoughts, feelings, intentions, talents and strengths to get on a path towards satisfying those desires. I help people heal from trauma. I don't believe drugs are good treatment and will help you withdraw from them.

My theoretical framework is Relational Psychoanalytic Therapy. My main focus is on understanding the underlying causes of your anxiety or depression with the objective of gaining self-awareness and self-understanding. You will likely talk about your past to see how it may still influence you in the present. Emphasis is on understanding past and present relationships with consideration that thoughts and feelings are neither negative nor irrational. Making sense of your emotions is a big part of what may help you feel better about yourself giving you freedom to make emotionally healthy choices by getting to the root of your problems.

Is your Google Search Bar all too familiar with the searches, “Do I need counseling” or “Symptoms of depression/anxiety”? You know something is off but aren’t sure exactly what it is. Asking for help, saying no, and talking about the tough stuff tend to be at the top of your "No thanks" list, but you know deep down that thing (or several things) from your past keeps creeping up more and more often. Maybe you’ve noticed that your relationships are starting to feel like cycles, or your self-worth is running low. You’re wanting to feel confident, achieve goals, and get out of the funk that some emotions seem to put you in.

I work with individuals and families who are motivated to grow, heal, and better understand themselves. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and client-centered, with an emphasis on empowerment, self-reflection, and aligning personal goals with individual values. I believe therapy is most effective when it honors each person’s lived experience, strengths, and unique path forward. I enjoy working with children and adolescents, recognizing the importance of early support and intervention. I also work with adults facing challenges related to anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, neurodiversity, and life transitions.

I draw on a range of evidenced-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, I tailor our work to what fits you-your history, your nervous system, and your goals. Whether you're working through the aftermath of trauma, trying to make sense of recurring relationship patterns, or simply feeling like something needs to change, I'll meet you where you are.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
