Forty years as a depth psychotherapist, with wisdom gleaned from C.G. Jung and yogic principles, has given me the skills to help people find their own path to meaning, self-awareness, balance and authenticity. Through careful exploration of memory, fears and dreams, I help clients work toward well-being by helping them understand psychic wounds, abandon outmoded patterns of self-protection, and apply useful strategies for handling the inevitable conflicts of daily life.

After over 50 years of experience working with children, adolescents and adults in settings as diverse as prison and preschool, I have come to the conclusion that the root of most psychological suffering is a discrepancy between who we really are and who we have been expected to become or expect ourselves and others to be. This discrepancy between the "Self" and the personality we develop causes immense suffering within individuals, between individuals and in the culture as a whole. My goal is to help clients find their own truth or "Self" and live their lives from that place.

I am passionate about the children and families of New Mexico. Parenting can be very challenging and sometimes as parents we need extra support to gain communication, parenting and self-regulation skills. I have experience working with children and families suffering from depression, anxiety, family conflicts, ADHD, and behavioral problems. Also, being a Native New Mexican, I incorporate a cultural awareness and sensitivity in my practice. I recognize and appreciate New Mexican culture as unique and valued along with having it's own struggles and obstacles.

I specialize in treating individuals struggling with trauma, identity, and relationship challenges. As an LMFT I also specialize in couples and family therapy. I use a combination of traditional analytic tools, existential psychology, and narrative therapy in order to address the depth of the person, while we work on creating your new story. I also use narrative work to directly treat trauma, PTSD, and relationship issues. Together we will manifest the change you desire in yourself and improve the depth and intimacy of your relationships.

Alisa Moortgat is a queer-identifying Licensed Mental Health Counselor providing sex-positive and affirming therapy. Alisa takes pride in creating a safe, reflective space to support creative and organic processing. Alisa is passionate about assisting others on their healing journey, especially those members of the LGBTQIA+ community, neurodivergent individuals, survivors of sexual violence, and Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
