I am a Codependency and Grief Specialist.
Self image, choice, boundaries, and awareness are the building blocks to living the life you want. Increasing awareness about the things that aren't working. Recognizing the things we have control over and what your choices are. Building a positive self image and accepting your whole self, flaws and all. Setting and maintaining healthy boundaries, being aware of where you end and others begin. It is within all of us to create the life we are meant to live even when things get really hard. I work to teach you skills to make life better with empathy, warmth, and compassion. I am not the expert of your life, you are.

Are you looking for relief from suffering? This may hold different meanings to different people. For some, it means addressing past traumas to improve current living. For others, it may mean transforming anxiety and depression into manageable states of being, or working through specific parenting challenges that cause concern. For children and adolescents, relief of suffering may come in the form of receiving support and coping skills to deal with life's changes such as divorce, school related stress, or a serious trauma or mental health issue.

Do you find yourself overthinking, worrying about things you can’t control, or feeling like your mind never shuts off? Anxiety can leave you feeling overwhelmed, on edge, or stuck in patterns that are hard to change. It can also affect your relationships, making it harder to communicate, manage conflict, or feel connected. I help individuals in Albuquerque, Corrales, Rio Rancho, and throughout NM work through anxiety, relationship concerns, and depression so they can understand what is happening, manage their emotions, and build tools for feeling more in control of their lives and connected to people they care about.

Children and teens don't need to have all the answers before coming to therapy. Many of the young people I work with have experienced trauma, foster care, family disruption, or challenges related to emotions, behavior, or neurodivergence. They often need a place where they feel safe, understood, and accepted. I provide that space while helping them develop coping skills, strengthen relationships, and discover their own resilience and strengths.

Equine Therapeutic Connections (ETC) deeply believes that you are the answer you’ve been looking for; you just may not know which path to take. Working as a collaborative team of Equine Specialist, Mental Health provider, and horse…we will walk along side you through your pain, not “examining” or “analyzing” what is happening, but rather, being with you. Horses have worked alongside humans for many generations, allowing them to become especially attuned to emotions and nonverbal signals and responding accordingly.

I have been in practice for many years and have been helping people manage many personal problems. I specialize in helping medical professionals. I believe in giving people respect, support and help in understanding life's challenges. Depression and anxiety are the most common problems I see, wrapped in the context of many life changes, disappointments and traumas. Feel free to ask about specific issues. Diagnoses - developed in order for mental health professionals to be included in insurance; they are averages, not personal identities. Diagnoses are over-used, in my opinion - they have some relevance - they don't define a person.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
