Perhaps you’re at a point where you are frustrated and tired of starting over with a new therapist. You’re tired of telling your story over and over again and not experiencing any relief. You’re tired of taking all these medications and being numb. And you’re tired of your past trauma disrupting your everyday life. Perhaps you’re wondering if you’re ever going to heal and feel better. You CAN heal. The therapist’s job is to help facilitate the healing process that lies within you. To heal from trauma, you don’t have to talk about the details of what has happened to you (unless you find it helpful).

Within our current cultural paradigm, many individuals face heightened levels of stress, problematic substance use, and strained relationships.
Grounded in a critical, relational, and embodied perspective, I prioritize building the therapeutic relationship around a harm reduction-informed philosophy that utilizes psychodynamic perspectives and narrative approaches to healing and growth. Ultimately, I hope to build an empowering experience for clients that can transform their interpersonal lives.

For substance use disorders and behavioral addictions, I would normally work with you for 3-12 months utilizing cognitive behavior therapy, Mindfulness and other approaches as we tailor your treatment plan to your needs.
Accepting new clients! Are you experiencing problems with alcohol or other drugs? Well there's good news and bad news. First the bad news. It takes effort to stop addictive behaviors, and to address the underlying emotional or trauma issues that compel you to relapse over and over again. There’s no magic wand, no Abracadabra. Now the good news. The cycle doesn’t have to be endless, and recovery is possible!

If you come to therapy to explore a specific mental health condition, I have experience with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and stressor disorders, personality disorders, substance use disorders, and neurodivergence.
In collaborating with me to improve your wellness, I will work hard to connect with you and build trust. We can work with internal changes and the constant flow of changes around us. I value creativity, individuality, voice, curiosity and authenticity. You will be meeting with a therapist who enjoys engaging conversations that might not feel like therapy until the end of the session when you realize therapy can be enjoyable. These interactions are meant to increase understanding which experiences have shaped you and which changes you'd like to make.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
