Using somatic , liberation, narrative, play, and depth traditions, I impart skills for sharpening senses and expanding perceptions, to increase options for vitality and connection in challenging times.
Are you experiencing fear, loneliness, anger, grief, chronic illness, or pain? Maybe you're transitioning or feeling un-rooted; or, in a storm, lost or overwhelmed, anxious, and/or addicted? Our identities and perspectives are informed, in part, by how we relate to these experiences and make sense of them. Knowledge of that we call 'self' is a continual and creative process, and includes integration of the unconscious - the parts of the psyche yet unknown to us. I help clients find focus and relax preconceived notions of how healing occurs. This allows one to learn from their symptoms in order to ease suffering - to hold paradox.

We utilize skills-based, mindful, play, narrative, and somatic modalities that afford our clients the opportunity to create a toolbox relevant to their lives and therapeutic needs, which they can take with them into the real world.
We believe everyone deserves a life worth living; simply because you are here you deserve a life based on your terms, needs, and desires. That said, many of us have experienced things in our lives that get in the way of us believing or realizing this. Sometimes, we simply have not been taught the skills we need or perhaps things have happened in our lives that interfere with us using those skills. We will work with you to uncover what it would mean for you to live your life worth living.

I adopt a humanistic, trauma-informed approach, examining behavioral patterns and prioritizing somatic (body) based practices to help you develop a sense of safety in your body.
Have a hard time understanding or expressing your emotions? Feeling uncomfortable, shame, or judgements in relationships? Experiencing a major life change? We experience things daily that can dramatically impact our sense of connection to ourselves and others. Therapy can be supportive, validating, and empowering. When we can learn about our emotions, identify behavioral patterns that are decreasing the quality of our life, and step into radical personal responsibility, we have more choice to create the life and relationships we want.

When something’s not right, you can feel it. This ‘feeling’ is not precisely an idea, nor is it something you feel only physically, like a headache. It may be elusive, somewhere between the body and the mind. Perhaps you are anxious. Your thoughts run in unproductive circles, but you can also feel it in your stomach. As a somatic therapist, my training emphasizes the connections between mind and body. This might mean—now and then—that my clients end up dancing. Most often, though, it means we have a conversation centering the body, as we work to figure out what you want your life to look like and how to get there.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
